How many categories for 3 ph are there? And what's the difference between them? Is a category 1 the most common?

There are four categories. I've no idea which one is the most common. Although most CUT's are category 1, there's a heck of a lot of Ag tractors that are probably category 2 or 3.

The differences are the upper and lower link diameters and spacing of the lower links.
The Adobe file attached explains it all. If you don't have Adobe Reader, it's a free download.

Larry, you might want to look at John Miller III's post in this thread (6th post in the thread) for a picture and more detailed description.

There's a cat0 or cat1 "limited" also I've heard of. I think it allows cat0 use of some cat1 implements, or possibly the implement is designated car1 limited and can be used on smaller tractors. Something to that effect anyway.

Thanks for the replies...Bird it looks like Roy & John got the info out the same site. While I'm on the subject, my top link jam nut became stripped, so I replaced it....I suppose it does not matter if the jam nut goes on the implement side or the tractor side of the barrel of the top link?? Maybe I need a jamb nut on both ends?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I can't see that it would make any difference which end the jam nut is on, or whether you had one on both ends, except for the time it would take to tighten two instead of one. Of course mine came with the single jam nut on the implement end and I never had one strip. I never tried to tighten them real tight, but did always use a wrench to get it pretty snug. I found that I could not get it tight enough by hand to keep it from working loose.

Depending on the type of jam-nut.. (some look like tear-drops) it's possible that it could get caught on the implement side top link hitch when raising or lowering.
