I printed these with PLA filament to replace the originals which had succumbed to UV. The originals were all international symbols but will go with all text for these replacements. I don't particularly care for the international symbols as some of them are simply not intuitive and make no sense to me.

The decals are 1/32" thickness with 1/32" thickness embossed text. Will probably try using automotive contact adhesive for bonding to the dash.

Looks pretty cool. I have absolutely no idea how to do 3d printing.

I suppose a 3D printer could be described as similar to any computer printer except its usually much taller to accommodate the 3rd dimension and uses plastic filament in lieu of ink to produce the part. The 3rd axis is the Z which creates the thickness of the part layer by layer with the code output by software called a "slicer" which defines the layers by inputting 3D computer created models.

The filament, which comes in a coil similar to weed-eater string, is fed thru a heated extruder which produces a stream of molten plastic about 1/64" (.4mm) in diameter which is distributed layer by layer with the X and Y axis printer movement.

There are hundreds of thousands of 3D models available for free downloading off the internet but the real creativity comes from learning and using 3D CAD on the computer.

We are using FreeCAD v22 in the Yanmar community. It's workbench based, yet free.

Very cool emblem and construction method!

I used ProE for about 10 years prior to retiring and started using the free version of Fusion 360 in the last year or so.

Would be interesting to have a thread where folks could show what they've printed for things of TBN's areas of interest. I'm amazed with ideas that folks come up with for utilizing the technology.

With several of the Yanmar/Deere compacts from the 70s, 80s,90s, parts suppliers have 3D printed now the dash, grills, emblems, and such. With 3D print on demand, little has to be stored in a warehouse hoping someday it will be ordered.

The way the emblem was done, thoughts on how it has to be painted to match the original in diecasted aluminum and painted.

I loved Pro-E WF5 and earlier. Today I'll run to the hills seeing creo. Creo now has a nickname called Crap-o.

I've dabbled in Fushion-360 it has some of the SolidWorks feel to it. Nice enough.

Do you remember the type of filament you used? I've heard that PLA stands up fairly well outdoors but I probably should use ABS or ASA for UV resistance on these dash decals.

Cheap hatchbox PLA I believe

It was printed 100% infill

Very nice, good workmanship on a good idea.
