I'm looking at a 3810D with 1700 hours. What can I expect from one of these units?

What do you plan to do with it. This is one of the largest tractors Yanmatr built. Depending on how well it has been taken care of it can give great service. This was a first rate unit when it was built in 80/81.

I would guess it depends on the person selling the tractor as to what you can expect from the tractor.It should be a great tractor with plenty of power & last a long time if it's been taken care of .Is this tractor a v.n. rebuild or an original ?

You've heard it run? Or do you mean that what someone has written about it sounds good? If the latter, remember, all it takes is a pen and a lack of conscience to make a lousy tractor sound good in an advertisement. The seller is everything. I don't think we have ever seen a buyer from the "reputable" dealers come on this board with a significant problem. Get references from the seller, some at least a year old (everyone is happy at first), see what they say. Ask them where they do their repairs, ask to see some parts (anyone working on these has at least some seals and bearings in stock).

Be careful on what you bid on, "AS IS, No Warranty" from a tractor dealer does not sound good. If you really want it drive down and run it first hand....

The YM3810D is basically a YM3110D with a Turbo. The YM3110D may be my favorite Yanmar, good parts availability, good tractor.

The logistics of this proposition SUCK! I would have to drive 280 miles and kick the tires on the tractor prior to payment. If I later have a problem the tractor is sitting that same 280 miles away. The "local" dealer is an hour+ from me and I don't get the impression he is doing this full time nor do I get the feeling he WANTS to sell me a tractor. Even tho the YM3810D was a great tractor 25 yrs ago doesn't make it a great tractor now. I'm getting a bit discouraged about this whole thing. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
"sounds" is from description only and from what I've read about them. I certainly haven't seen the tractor first hand nor do I feel comfortable that I would recognize a problem unless it is VERY noticable.
