I received a the first quote on my new 3720 today with the wish list of the equipment: I live in Middle Georgia.

Experiences on the mowers would be helpful information for me.

The package appears to be proper matched to me. Am I correct? I have seen good reveiws of this trator on TBN. Anyone experiencing problems with this size?

I will mainly mow pasture and my lawn Some of my property has pretty good hills and I want to cut the back side of my dam. Some harrowing and scrapeing roads. The loader will come in handy for various small jobs.

If me, I wouldn't settle for the light-weight 300x loader, but go with the 300cx. It will give you more re-sale value, if nothing else. Also, will give you more flexibility on the attachments and the lifting capacity. There have been some discussions already on the differences. But, you may already have made your decision based on the knowledge of these differences.

Otherwise, looks like a great package.

To me the appeal of the JD 3x20 machines is their compact size. The width of that tractor is under 60". You are choosing 6 ft attachments, which I am sure the 3720 has plenty of power to run, but the narrow footprint of the tractor is wasted. If you're OK with a 6-ft swath, why give up the stability of a wider machine, especially if you will be mowing hills? I guess what I'm asking is why you're leaning toward a 3720 vs a 4120? The 3x20 was on my short list, but I was plannning to use it with 5-ft attachments for maneuverability. In the end I chose a wider machine and wider attachments.

I appreciate you input about the width of the tractor. I actually have a quote on a used 4610 with 100 hours, 460 FEL for $19950.00. I was a little concerned with the additional weight and compacting my lawn. Is this a valid concern? I would prefer the bigger machine just because I can. My wife like the idea of using the tractor also and I thought this one would be more fun for her and still have enough power to handle the tough jobs.

According to the JD 3000 twenty series brochure, the 3120 width is 59 inches, but the 3320-3720 models width is 67.4 inches. If he went with the LX5, it wouldn't cover the footprint.

The price you have gotten seems pretty good to me. I figure it to be a little over 15% discount, which is good for this priced machine, which is a brand new model. This is only about $400.00 more than my quote from my dealer, who has been a family friend for most of my life. I agree, you do not want the 300x loader, you want the 300cx loader (big difference there). Also, I know you are debating about whether to get the 4610 that is used. I have never been too much on used equipment, but 100 hours on a tractor like a 4610 is not much at all. Keep in mind a couple things too, first the 3720 has about 5 more lbs./ft of torque at rated speed than does the 4610, and weighes (unloaded) about 1100 pounds less. This means PTO power and throttle response/heavy or higher speed work would be easier. The 4610 has the advantage of the larger frame, which means more stability over irregular surfaces. I do not believe it will compress the lawn too much, but I do not see that it would mow as well as the 3720 would. I would not recommend the MX6 RC for a 3720. It will handle it, and several very respected posters use them on mid frames, but that is a very heavy cutter for a mid frame machine. If you truly want the MX6 v. MX5, you may be better off getting the 4610 for its size. I do not know if hauling your machine is a priority, but if it is, a 4610 with loaded tires, loader and say, box blade would be over 6000 pounds to haul and would require at least an 18 foot trailer. My 3720 is no lightweight, but I can haul it on a 16' trailer and keep my total weight of tractor, attachments and trailer in the 7000 pound range v. 8500+ for a large frame.

I saw that measurement as well. Thankfully, that is another JD misprint. The 3720 I have is exactly 57" wide with the wheels in standard position. It, of course, would be wider with the wheels outward and this may be what they are measuring. The 3720 with R4 tires is no wider than the other new mid frame tractors, so it would not result in tread overlap with 5' attachments.

I think you have hit the nail on the head as far as tractor size if you want to mow lawn. As mentioned before, the MX6 is a heavy mower. If you have heavy brush to knock down then get it. If you can hire out to have someone knock down the brush the 1st time then use an LX6 to maintain, you'll end up with a lighter but effective cutter. I like my LX5 on my 4310, it is a good match and can fit between most of our many trees.

I'm going with the MX5 myself. Found a last years model for $1450. It would be nice to have more overlap. BUT the length is also increased a lot.

Now for buckets, I think 61" is a bit narrow so I went with the skid steer carrier and a 66" Foundry bucket. You know, a 66" brush mower would be nice too.


I'd agree with the earlier comments on the CX vs X. I think the X is simply designed to be a price point unit.

I appreciate you input about the size of the mower. I will give this serious consideration. I am leaning toward the 3720 because if gives me the HP to use larger attachments. I want also use a grooming mower to do my lawn and I though the lighter weight would give less problems on the lawn. I also will mow pasture with the bush hog and every foot counts. The patures are wide open. I also have a 50 HP Allis with a heavy duty Bush Hog for any heavy stuff that I need to mow. My wife loves this stuff to and I though she would feel more comfortable using the smaller machine (if I let her). By the way, I got another bid on the same tractor today for $18,512.00. This dealer is about 60 miles south in a more heavy farming are and mostly deals in large units. They are a great dealer and will probably end up with the business on whatever my final decision is.
