Fellow posters:

I have just spent my first relatively full day on the new 3720. Man, what a difference between this machine and the 4310 I had!!! The mid range power and issues I had with hill work are now things of the past. Once I get about 15-20 hours of seat time, I will do an official comparative review (if that would be helpful to others). For now, I am most pleased with my trade.

Thanks, and keep us posted on how you like it. I went and looked at them yesterday to see how the turbo is mounted. Looks like it would be a major chore to try and adapt one to a 4310.

Okay, it has been 7 days you should have well over 15-20 hours of seat time so lets have a review.

Just kidding, but I for one am very interested in your review when you are ready .

454,

I have posted a brief initial review in the review section of the site. If further questions arise that I did not address, let me know and I will try to address them. Thanks for the question. Hopefully my initial thoughts are of some assistance.

Thank You. Your review is helpful. Please post a review of the mower when you have some experience with it. By the way, did you consider the 3520? If so was the price difference minimal to get the extra horsepower?

Thanks......Shooter

Shooter,

I did not really consider the 3520. I did not feel it had enough more power over my older 4310 to merit trading for it. I feel that the 3720 is quite a bit more for not too much extra money. That is the reason I went with it. I can tell you though that I may have been incorrect. My current 3720 is SO MUCH more powerful than my 4310 was, I feel the 3520 would still offer a good step up from the 4310. One of the biggest differences I see (that I added late in my review) is the new feel of the hydro. The precision and pedal response are entirely different (and better). My 3720 has similar pedal feel to X595 I used to have. I am sure the 3520 would offer similar improvement and thusly would feel even more responsive than the power difference would suggest over the 4x10's. I find this to be one of the most useful changes. I never really liked how vague and delayed the hydro was on the 4310. In short, if one can swing the extra cash on the 3720, do it, otherwise the 3520 would be a real improvement over the 4000's. The turbos' make a big difference.

Just wanted to point out one minor detail on the tires as mentioned in your review. The "sipes" that you are referring to are call "mud breakers" by Galaxy and are designed to help the tires clean in mud. Sipes are small cuts in the tread giving the block orf rubber more biting edges and flexibility. I don't think they use these on the standard size R4's, just the larger "Marathoner" tires.

The difference between the two is something like $3,500 retail. What did your dealer quote you as the difference?
Thanks.

I believ the "real dollar" difference from 3520 to 3720 is about $1800 from what I am told.

I had narrowed down my first tractor purchace on a 3720. I called two dealers today to get bids on my purchase. I will have them tomorrow. One dealer said he had a used 4610 on the lot with 100 hours. The HP seem comparable but I am concerned with the overall weight. I want to mow my lawn also. Dealer is asking $19,950 for the 4610 with 460 loader. I still think I am leaning toward the new 3720. Any advice. I am in Middle Georgia. I want to use a 6" medium duty rotary mower for pastures and 6' finish mower, and some disc harrowing.

JD,

I realize you were replying to Kennedy Diesel's response, and he will offer a good opinion to you. For my part, the comparison you cite is interesting. I have a 3720 and have loved it so far. It is very strong and would perform all the tasks you mention with relative ease. The 4610 will mow well and in most cases will not compress the ground, provided it is not too soft. Our local hospital uses one to pull a 6' RFM on a relatively-delicate front lawn, and it does fine. The tire tracks are hardly noticable. That said, they do not even think of mowing with it when a rain has occurred even two days prior. They also have a 4410 for ground maintenence. The crew does not like this machine as well as the 4610. They say it is not as comfortable or powerful. Having used a 4610 myself in the past, the 3720 I currently have will blow it away with regard to power and engine peformance. There is no comparison between the two in that regard. With regard to durability, I do not see a huge difference between the two. As noted, the mid frame 4010's had some initial "bugs" that needed resolving, but they and the new 3000 series are fine with regard to durability. This may also be a function of the number of them there are, relative to the large frame machines. For me, I would go with the 3720. I also would consider getting the larger R4 tires, as both Kennedy Diesel and myself did. This makes the tractor approach the sizing of the large frames but while maintaining a reasonable lateral dimension for greater manuverability. Incidentally, our head groundskeeper at the hospital liked my 3720 so much when he saw it, he has pre-ordered two to replace the tractors mentioned when his lease expires. Also, the dealer may be steering you (in part) to the machine he has because the 3720's have been somewhat tough to get by the dealers recently. Apparently, JD is somewhat behind on production of them, and they currently are being produced in increments.

John M,
Thanks for your guidance on the 3720 and the 4610. This being my first tractor purchase, I am attempting to give it as much thought and consideration as possible. I was a little concerned when the local dealer steered me toward this 4610. He seemed to be more concerned about making the sale as opposed to assessing my needs and matching the proper machine. I am glad to hear your thoughts on the weight issue. The 3720 appears to me a tractor my wife may not be intimidated by if she decided to cut. She has no tractor experience. At this time I am leaning toward a 3720 with a FEL. Any ideas on pricing? Also, I do plan to see the 4610 this afternoon. Any ideas on pricing with 100 hours and FEL? I am in middle GA. I have two dealers sending me quotes ont the 3720 today. I plan to make a decision in the next week or two. Thanks,

The mid chassis to large chassis is quite a step up. I thioughthard about a 4710, but it's just too physically large for my needs. I think the 3720 has similar power to the 4610 (you'll have to check specs) and I find the newer electronics to be much more adjustable/responsive in regards to the Ehydro.

As for how the wife will like it, I'm sure she will. I've had mine drive it while tied off to trees to pull them the correct direction. Once was there ever a problem where the I warning light came on. I had her in reverse in C range throttled up, and had her take off fast with it. Set Err 6 which is a speed sensor lost error. Told her she broke it /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif and could make up for it later /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
