3500 GMC starter trouble

Hey just a quick question, my new 06 gmc 3500 diesel seems to have starter trouble. When I start it theres a short grinding of the starter after it starts, just for a second. And i'm not turning the key for too long. I'm thinking its a sticky starter solonoid. Either way I'll be bringing it back to the dealer since its under warranty. I just wanted to see if anyone had anyother ideas on what this could be.

I don't know anything about what your problem might be, but if the newer Silverados/Sierras (My Silverado is a '99) are anything like the Trailblazers (ours is an '05) it doesn't matter how long you hold the key. The computer will hold the starter until it "thinks" the vehicle has started. It also won't re-engage the starter once the vehicle is running. I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that is a computer problem vs. the actual solenoid.

Isn't it strange how these starters work nowadays? I noticed on my '03 Tundra that you don't need to hold the key over while cranking, just turn it to the crank position and release, and it'll crank till it starts - feels weird that's for sure. My '05 Tundra works the same way and the dealer says it's how they're designed to work now.....

Mmm thats interesting. I havnt gotten to into the computer side of automotive work. I'm restoring a 1959 rambler and I still think on the more mechanical side of stuff than computers, with how it is these days thats gunna have to change. I did purchase a scanner though. Pretty cool stuff.
