I have a relatively new 3320 with 300Cx Loader and am having ocassional tach trouble on startup. When I turn the key the tach and other systems do a self test it seems that on a normal day the tach will go to full scale then zero (or vice versa) and read correctly after start. Ocassionally the tach will stop at 1500rpm or so and this seems to be the zero point for that startup. Needless to say it can get very confusing when used in this fashion. Anyone had this trouble or quick fix suggestions? It is still under warranty.

Seems like I have seen some posts on known problems with the 3020 series instrument clusters. I would be contacting my dealer I think.

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems to be an itermittant problem since it seems to work about 80% of the time if I turn the key off and than back to on. I'll investigate a little further and then call the dealer. A new instrument cluster on the JD parts website is about $470.

Is that an RV you're thinking of building?

Definitely contact the dealer. My hour meter went wild on my 3520. It was covered by warranty and took about 45 minutes to replace (I'm a 2-1/2 hour boat trip from my dealer), including clean-up and putting everything away. Very simple. Had to return the old cluster to the dealer as JD is going after the manufacturer because of the number of problems they have had.

Just a thought (question), where is the pickup for the tach? I know some cars used to put it in the alternator, if alt. went bad and wasn't replaced with OEM, you would loose the tach. That might be what's burning up the the instr. cluster boards.

Interesting thought, but this is/was a brand new machine with less than 50 hours on it at the time. Apparently JD has had enough problems that they are seeking some sort of "resolution" with the manufacturer of the clusters.

Followup: JD tech was out today and replaced the instrument cluster. Looked more involved than I thought it would be since he had to program tires size, tractor hours and input the tractor serial no. into the cluster, etc.
Anyway, it works now!

Sounds interesting. Did he say if this was an isolated incident, or had they been having a lot of trouble with same units? Two weeks for the repair/service call, did you find this acceptable or did they tell you up front it would be awhile? Did he program panel with hand held instrument/laptop or was it just some dip switches that he had to put in right places?

When I called for service they told me they didn't have one in stock and would have to order it. He said it was a known problem but didn't have many from his dealership with this trouble. Believe it or not, they programmed it using menus that came up on the small lcd speedo screen using the left/right function of the display switch.
