What are the posts made of? Did you consider putting the posts on concrete footers? Pros/cons?

The posts are 2x6 nailed and glued together. The bottom of the 2x6 which touches the ground is pressure treated. The posts are sitting on concrete footings.

Footings are needed to have a brick ledge.
