3140 hydraulic pump coupling query

The hydraulic pump coupling is making a nasty noise comeing from the crankshaft end where the alloy bit sits "inside" the damper .What i would like to know is how the coupling works are there any rubbers inside or is it a solid coupling?

Thanks at least I didn't sound like a complete idiot when I rang the dealer should be able to pick up a new cushion next time I go down to the city

It turns out the rubber had gone rock hard (Looked ok) after putting a new rubber in at Christmas it's now nice & quiet
