My father inlaw has a 3130 with only 430 hrs 2 wheel drive no cab 1977 in show room condition, I would like too buy it, he has not put a price on it , was wonder what this tractor would be worth, do not want to pay more then it is worth, but want too make him a fair offer. also where these a good tractor for John deere. Thanks for anying info.

They are decent tractors and are supposed to be the same as a 2840 which had a more modern cowling. I use a 3030LS which is nearly the same thing that a friend has and the biggest problem he has is finding parts. It is great to find a low hour tractor but my concern would be this one has alot of sitting time, any idea why? Did this tractor sit for a long period or was it used more often but for short durations. That would be good to know. Also does yours have the hi lo function? If not it has limited gear selection.
What shape are the tires in are they original? How about leaks, hoses and other rubber parts that may need replacement.
My best guess if tires and rubber parts are very good, everything is in good shape sight unseen no loader $11,000.
If tires and rubber need replacement soon then $8500 to $9000.

With those hours chances are it will be a good tractor if your not going to work it too hard but the 3130 had a notoriously bad name.There were a lot of them around in the UK but at the time JD did'nt have many options for a lightweight 6cyl .
It was a liveley sweet tractor to drive and the 3 speed with the high-low was fine but slow on the road.
Many of them seemed to suffer with poor hyd's ,Brake problems, cyl head trouble,and the hyd fwa was useless.
This model was mainly to blame for us and many others switching to ford or MF in the early 80's,They just were never as good as the 2130's ,2140's,3140's etc ,My neighbour retired recently and had his 4000hr 3130 with loader and OPU cab for sale for 3 years and ended up selling it to a hutterite colony to sit on a slurry pump for $6000...???? At that price i considered it myself..lol
