3130 100 Hour Service

I just performed my 100 Hour Service on my L3130. The Operator's Manual calls for 6 Quarts of oil with Filter Change. I changed Oil Filter and added 6 Quarts of oil, but now the dipstick shows that I have over filled by about a half quart of oil. I have started it up and let it run for about a minute, then let it sit overnight and recheck, but it still shows the same. This tractor has been flawless since day one and I don't want a leak to start now. Has anyone else had this problem?

My 3010 calls for 5.8 qts I believe. I thought they used the same engine in the 3130, but not positive. If that is the case it is not overfilled by much, and it would have to be a good bit too much for the crankshaft to hit the oil to cause it to foam. I don't think I would be concerned with it unless I saw air bubbles on the dipstick. Foaming could actually cause a loss of oil pressure and that would cause more damage than having a leak. I have "overfilled" on cars and trucks before by going 'by the book' and never had a problem.

I put 6 quarts in mine and its' full to the top line on the stick but not overly full. Are you sure all the oil was out? Was it sitting at a slight angle maybe?

Did you have the same issue at the 50 hour oil change?

The 50 hour service was performed by the dealer. When I brought it home I checked it and it was on the upper line. I'm a little concerned because my father in law bought a new Dodge with a Cummins deisel that had the wrong dip stick installed at the factory. When I changed the oil the tractor was in my shop on level ground and I let it drain from both drain plugs for two hours. I guess I will drain some out.

my 3010 also uses 5.8 qts Larry

When I change oil and filter on my 3130, 5.5 qts is the correct amount of oil to put it on the full mark.
