3120 Tachometer question

So, how big a pain-in-the-arse is replacing the tach cable on a 3120? Or is that even my problem -

The tach will only register up to 1100. Up until then it seems to be pretty acurate but over that I've been just playing by ear, as it were, bumping the throttle until it feels & works right. Still, would be nice to have a needle to read.

When my 3320 was relatively new, I had problems with an erratic tach. Turned out the little "red button" in the center was touching the inside of the plastic face of the tach just enough to prevent proper movement. When cold it worked perfectly, but when hot not.

Nope, nothing touching the face - if only it was such a simple fix! I didn't have time to mess with it today, but will investigate further. Looks like the back of the dash is accessible by taking off the black firewall under the hood.

BTW - Magnificent dog! I used to know a sheriff's deputy with a Giant Schnauzer K-9 partner. He was awesome and really turned heads 'cause people would be expecting a GSD or Mal in the back of the cruiser.
