The one we put up has panels on the North and South sides under the eaves. The next one will have panels on the North and South sides under the eaves as well as panels on the West end in the gable.

You may never need lights until after sundown.

I feel pretty dumb. I used 2x12's for the truss carrier. On the walls, 4 2x6, ground contact tounge and groove at the base, and 2x4 nailers 2 ft on center. Posts are treated 4x6. trusses are 2 ft on center. Building is 40x40. I know in northern Michigan, the trusses are much heavier, made out of stamped 2x6 southern pine. But they get crazy snow.

Snow load is a structural game changer !

Tractor finally has a covered home, no more tarp covers ! Bird nest wire all the way around. The weather vane was a Morton barn warming gift. All the framing lumber is Spruce and the posts are laminated SYP. Doors will be installed tomorrow. It got baptized today with heavy thunder storms. No leaks....but sure was noisy ! 20180808_083526.jpeg20180807_171803.jpeg20180807_171647.jpeg20180807_171615.jpeg20180807_171553.jpeg

About 15 years ago when I had a barn built the builder told me that the translucent panels used to be not so good but they had improved. The originals are still in that barn as far as I know. I had it on two barns now and my only issue is with the condensation stains on the purlins and rafters are much more noticeable. You really do notice the amount of light that they let through when you get some snow on the roof.

That said, I agree though on the panels along the upper part of the walls. That would be my choice next barn.

These 3 panels do let alot of light in. They are not clear see thru but have a white tint to them.

post a pic completed with the doors- really nice build. What was a rough cost on the whole project? I have a 30 x 50 x 12 red iron metal building that was on my land when I bought it, and need another that is taller.

Very nice

Curious about the skylights these days.
Would love to have them on my next shed but I'm afraid I'd be having to clean them suckers too much. We have big time humidity and along with the woods here comes ALGAE.

I wouldn't put one in the roof, both of our barns have them in the eaves.

Sorry for the late post ! $38K for the barn. 4K for the concrete floor. I did the site prep work myself. The 16 ft walls really makes a big difference. View attachment 58632820190107_101328.jpeg

I thought about under the eaves sky lights. But the motorhome would block any light. The 3 sky light panels I have on the roof let a lot of light in. They are heavy duty panels with a 50 year warranty.
