I'm a new owner of a JD 3032E with a couple of questions. I could find nothing in the owner's manual or the archives of TBN about them.
This is my 1st tractor with HST. When I let off the go pedal, either forward or reverse, it feels like brakes are applied. This is more than just engine braking, it feels like mechanical brakes. In fact, when released quickly, the rear tires will actually slide on a gravel surface. I'm assuming this is normal with HST and am asking for confirmation.
Second, when I move the tractor in high range by pushing the pedal with the engine at idle or slightly above, there is a loud squeal coming from the trans-axle area similar if not the same as the sound when I try to move with the parking brake on. As the tractor picks up ground speed the noise goes away. Starting off with the engine at higher rpms , > 1500, the sound is not there. The squeal mostly goes away after the everything is warmed up nicely. Are these things normal or do I need to contact my dealer.
A brief explanation of the relationship between the HST and the braking system or a link to more definitive information will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

I haven't driven on gravel, but my Kubota HST stops abruptly like that when I let off the pedal. I think it is normal. It certainly makes fine control much easier.

Hydros can stop abruptly when you let off the pedal. However, there is usually an adjustment to somewhat vary how abrupt that is. The E-hydros can change that electronically with their control buttons. My 755 standard hydro has a mechanical adjustment, although I have never changed it since the factory setting was fine. Yours may have something similar, but you may instead just need to get used to how the hydro operates first. Too slow will make for poor control. Also remember when in 4WD that hydro gives you four wheel braking. I only use the mechanical brakes for parking.

Welcome to TBN Steve:D

Everything you describe is 100% normal. In time you will learn to ease off the pedal to slow to a stop. It is not applying the brakes. The "whine" is also normal, especially in High gear.

Roger kennyD's answer, Steve. My 3032E operates exactly the same way. The whine starting up will go away when operating with warmed-up hydraulic fluid and at higher RPM's. Great little tractor, you'll love it once you get used to HST. Now you just need to add the dual rear SCV kit, top 'n tilt, a bucket thumb, and a set of Chris Perry's forks! Boats are a hole in the water into which you pour money, and tractors are a shadow on the ground that you cover up with a layer of money.

Thanks to all for your quick replies. I was pretty sure it was all normal, but feel a better now.
