Tractor
2516 Mahindra w/backhoe
I was wondering if anyone had these two models and what are there experinces with them. I was also wondering if someone could tell me exactly how the shuttle shift works on these tractors. I would really appreciate the advice.

Thanks everyone and have a great evening.

Hi Charlie, your just down the road from me. I see you have a Kubota that is about 25 HP. The extra 5 HP may not seem like much but it is a help, especialy at the pto. I have a 25 HP Kubota and a 33 HP Mahindra and there is a big difference in preformance. Both my tractors have shuttle shift and I really like it. I imagine if your going to do a lot of back and forth, like cleaning stalls, or a chicken house hydrostatic would be better.

I'm right down the road in Frederick.

I'm also looking at the 3016 and the new Mahindra Max 28 in gear trans.

I will be brush hogging then turning 5 untamed acres into grass.

Not building for 5 years so I can go smaller and take my time.

Mahindra dealers are few and far between, last Saturday I looked at the 3016 at Stonehams in Pa. Real nice people.

I heard Federick may get a Mahindra dealer soon.

I also like the Kioti CK27.

I may flip a coin...

Hi Jim,

We were at Stonehams yesterday. We are going to buy off of him. We are looking more toward the 2516. The weight capacities are quite different from the 2350 to the 2516. I am interested in the 28 max too, but he did not have one. The 28 max is really just a 2516 with new badging and the fuel pump turned up. They did tell me a dealer is coming to Frederick but they were willing to go anywhere for business and extremely willing to help with service or warranty issues if they happen. That has pretty much sealed the deal with us going with them. The price also helped. We are going to try to drive the shuttle shift when we get some time to go up.

As far as the work we need to do. There is also no hurry. So if it takes some more time we are ok with the smaller tractor. The 3016 just seems overkill for 4 acres.

Charlie,
I understand the Max 28 will be a little different...for attachments. Not sure how much easier or better.

If there is no rush I would wait to have a look at these.

That is my plan.

Can't believe I'm giving advice - I've never used any equipment larger than a lawn mower...

Like where you live, I lived in Bolivar for 2 years in the 90's.

Good luck with your purchase. If Mahindra...I will also purchase from Stoneham's unless there is a dealer in Frederick.

We are actually living in Shannondale. So we are a little ways down the mountain. I am curious to see if the max 28 three point hitch is a little different then the 2516. I want to look at the pics and we are going to email the dealer with some more questions. I want him to make money on the deal but I also want the best machine for the best price possible. So far they have been great to deal with. We like the 2350 but we are way over its limits with our projects. You are right also about not being in a rush. We are really taking our times to compare tractors and prices this time.

Question about the shuttle shift. Does anyone have any issues using shuttle shift in areas with lots of hills and such?

I have a gear 2516 with a FEL and some 3 pt attachments. I prefer the gear model in lower HP tractors as you get more HP to the ground/PTO. I'm going to be selling the 2516 and attachments to clear some room for a new project in the garage.

manganos,

Have you had any issues with having a gear tractor on hilly terrain? Has the 2516 performed well for you?

I only use the tractor on 4 acres and my property is pretty flat so I can't comment. I did have an issue with the diff-lock not working but got it resolved. Mahindra corporate service was great and I'd buy another from Wallace Tractor in a heartbeat. The 2516 has done everything I've asked of it and more. No issues with this size tractor for me.
