I just though I would share some pics of a 300 ton crane at a school where I have been working the last few days. We have been beefing up the ceiling joists to support the new 12000lb AC units they are going to be setting. This is the crane they will use.

You can't see it in the photos but the pads that the outriggers are setting on are like 6' x 6' x 8"thick solid chunks of steel. And the main cylinder is like 18" diameter. It was pretty awsome.

Kind of looks like a Liebherr? Nice machines.

They must need that big a machine for the reach?

Cool pics!

Yeah, that's a biggie! Cool pics, I especially like the perspective in the first shot.

Yeah they need it for the reach. I'm not sure how long the jib is but it had to be at least 200'. The area on the roof they are setting them is a long ways from the edge, and they wat to set them right in place, so they need a lot of reach.

The perspective of the first pic was taken when we were talking to the crane guys. They had to repair a cable on the end and then attach the hook.

As cool as the pics look, they just don't do it justice. As with pics of anything big, it is always way cooler in person. It's just hard to get a size perspective from a pic.

EDIT: I didn't notice until just now but the handle on the sledge hammer in the first shot give a good comparison as to how big the main cable is.
