3 point carry all, build or buy?

That is one sweet dump/carry all you made. Adding the hydraulic dump cylinder will make it perfect.

Good point. Should have added this picture. I totally forgot about a latch mechanism until I dumped a load of firewood. Necessity being the driving force ya know. So I went back in the shop and added this latch on one side. Then after I noticed the twist I was putting on the box with just one latch, I added a second on the other side. Ultimate goal is a hydraulic dump cylinder after I get rear remotes added to the tractor.

I never noticed the birdhouse smokestack until someone else mentioned it the first time I posted that picture. I couldn't have shot that better if I tried!!!

I didn't do a search for/about any carry-alls before I just built my trash hauler//general yardwork assistant yesterday. An I was (still am) so happy to have built a useful attachment out of scrap lumber laying around.

I had to buy two 2lb boxes of screws [one 3" & one 1"] cause I didn't have enough on hand, the angle brackets, and one quart of paint but still stayed under 20$.

But, it's sure not as cool as the metal dumping one is!! Oh well, little steps at a time. Here are some pictures anyhow.

No need to be embarassed at all. You used what you had available and workable. I did the same. Looks great to me. You'll use it a LOT!!!

Is that a forklift 3pt attachment on your tractor??? That's slick.

I use my tote box to haul firewood into my shop in the winter. I put the quick hitch on the tractor so I can haul in a load and set it by the stove, unhook the tractor and use it for other tasks. You could do something similar with your fork style attachment. Looks great to me!!!

Update, my shop burned two years ago. My totebox was hooked to my tractor with a full load of firewood. Needless to say the tractor was a loss. But I still use the box. It ain't quite as purty no more.

Heck I like your idea of using what looks to be pallets with your carry all.. You could build a few varieties, one for garden supplies, another for log cartage, etc. Back up, lift it up and on your way...

For me, building something carries with it the satisfaction of having done so, so I will often spend more in materials than it would have cost to buy it manufactured. Other times, it costs me less in materials, but I spend way too much time making it.

When it comes to buy vs. build, in most instances, if you are building something that can be bought, it is usually less expensive to buy. However, if what you are buying would have to be modified to fit your needs, then it can be advantageous to build it your way the first time.

Ovrszd, Sorry to hear bout your shop & equipmt burning up. I know what that's like; lost my whole place in the '07 Witch Creek fire. Yep, it's a 3 pt lift, same type tool as many pictures I've seen on TBN of carryalls from various places. Mine is a Woods and I use it alot, course that's cause I can't yet afford forks for the loader. Someday! I can probably haul firewood with mine too, but I just gotta be careful loading it in...I'm not as solid-built as your metal dumper!!

Lovethesmellofdiesel, Yup, it's actually an oversized pallet I got from work. Paper haulers use those bigger ones to deliver paper to our school and I got to looking/thinking and figured hey I can adapt that! It's actually about 1 & 1/2 pallets combined together. It's sure strong enough for my uses thus far. I've yet to mount some brackets to hold shovels, rakes, etc. etc. But I'll get to it soon.

For me building mine was mainly for fun and learning to weld but I need one anyway!!! I had planned on using a winch with mine but decided I didn't need it. Mine has a base that is free floating and removable. It also doubles as a sprayer (boom and tank mounted on a wood base). It works as a pallet forks/lifter for my water tank. Also, it carries my ballast, a 55 gallon drum full of concrete (uses a strap to hold it in place).

I opted to build vs buy. Using 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle iron and treated plywood for the bottom, it ended up heavier than I probably needed, but it works well and you could put 750 lbs on it if need be.

I had a 3 point hitch weight bar that I use in the winter for snow plowing and decided to use it as a platform mount. My carry all is large enough for a chain saw, tools, fuel, bar oil, log chains etc. Bungee cords strap it all on.

It has a single pin mount on the Top Link and steel pads that rest on the tapered arms of the weight bar. The result is that I can carry weights on the weight bar and have the carry on at the same time. Having the extra suitcase weights + the weight of the "carry all" really helps keep the rear tires on the ground when grappling logs.

i was toying with that idea using rebar as my wheel.

I built mine 5 years ago. Been trying to break it ever since but it won't break with my 20hp. It cuts, hauls, dumps and is a superb finish grader with my top and tilt. Couldn't do without it. Can take off the bed and install forks on the main frame or other attachments that will fit in a 2x2 hitch reciever.

I got a used set of 3pt pallet forks - I found these more useful that a dedicated carryall - I have several different boxes built for different thing and I can just back up grab them and go. Just my .02
