2544 updates for info

Have gone through a couple of things regarding past postings which could be of interest: (1) Gator Mulching blades. As has been established in the past, they are not available for the 2544. I went to my dealer and purchased a set for the 48" Tank. They are 16-1/2". Put them in my chop saw and took 1/4" off each end, making them 16". Re-balanced and installed. Used them on 2 acres of old "pasture". Really rough stuff. The blades really performed well using a hi for the first cut and once over again on the #3 position. The stuff was chewed down pretty darn fine. The blades showed no wear whatsoever. Think people who mulch and bag would like them a lot. (2) Replacement Headlights on E Bay. Bought a set, as my right front was melted from the overheat. They are the same cheesy lights that come on the mower. Evidently they are meant to "upgrade" the older models on the 2000 & 3000 series. (3) PTO to deck belt. Mine finally broke at 54 hours. This was even after a couple of wrong mountings (my carelesness) had give me the burned rubber syndrom. I really feel this was pretty good for the factory original. As an add, when I removed the original blades to install the Gators, I found very little wear or damage. Suprised the heck out of me because I am mowing some really rough stuff with lots of dust and sand blowing.

Good info. I saw that headlamp assembly on eBay & wondered if it was an improvement or not! I've got the wiring all taped up on mine & have already blown one bulb @ around 30hrs. As long as the assembly stays in place, I'm gonna just leave it alone. Maybe the 1500 series 'hood' on the new 2006 2000+ will eliminate the headlamp issues. The gator blades sound great, but the stockers do a fine job on the wimpy north-eastern grass/weeds I have /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. Still got the original PTO belt at 33hrs, chunk missing, burn marks and all! (all my fault /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif).
