I was using the bush hog for about an hour, stopped to talk to my neighbor, let it idle for about 30 seconds then turned it off. Chatted for about 10 minutes. Started it back up, ran for about 30 seconds, then it died and won't start back. Full of fuel, checked flow out of the right side filter, pours out of the small drain plug. Checked the left filter, it was about an inch low. Filled it and put it back on, still no start. Checked fuses...all good. Unplugged the wire on the injector pump and plugged it back on, still nothing. Cranks fine, just won't start. Ideas?

Did you bump the PTO lever or something like that? On my machine it won’t crank but maybe the 2538 is different......

Can you hear the solenoid on the inj. pump click, when you remove & reinstall the wire..??
Did u bleed the lines AT the injectors??
Loosen the fuel line AT the pump inlet & see if u have fuel there.

You've probably already tried this, but on top of the left fuel filter, there should be a round "disk". That is a primer pump for the filter and the lines. if you push on that a few times it will prime the fuel system...supposedly.

Also on the bottom of the left fuel filter, where the wires connect at the bottom sensor, there is a drain plug to let water out of the system. You disconnect the sensor and then loosen the plug.

I've had my 2538 not want to start after it's at running temp, and shut off for a few minutes. Cranks longer than normal, but eventually fires.

Good luck !
