Can someone give me an idea of what I’m looking at spending for a new motor for my 2400? Mine ran out of coolant and overheated idk what happened but I need it fixed. Thanks for any help.

Are you sure it needs a new engine? Have you pulled it apart yet? Sorry for your troubles. I think Asteral can put you in touch with a guy in TX that has Branson parts.

Pretty sure the bottom end is shot, it abruptly stopped running today while bush hogging. After it cooled down I checked the radiator and it was bone dry, put half a gallon of water in it and still couldn’t see any water in the radiator.

To me that would indicate that it seized,
did you check your oil before you added water.
Also a half gallon wouldn't fill the radiator.
Some times an engine will surprise you,
if there is no water in the oil id try and get it to turn over.

I’ll try tomorrow, I’m pretty frustrated and sick over it

I did check the oil, it was clean, I just changed it

Is your tractor gear or hydrostat?
If it were mine I'd try and get the engine to move,
either a wrench on the front of the crank or if a gear tractor putting it in the highest gear and rocking it back and forth,
make sure the fuel is shut off to the engine.
Once it was free and moving fill the radiator and try and start her.
May or may not if the rings have collapsed and the pistons are seized to tight.
If it won't turn over an option is to fill the radiator and get a radiator pressurization kit and apply 15-20 psi to the radiator and see if the water leaks down,
if not you may not have any major cracks in the head or block and boring and new pistons and bearings could have you up and going.
Do you have any idea why you had no coolant in the engine?
Many of us have lost an engine some due to inattention some not.

Sorry for your troubles Bama! Definitely give it a try, you never know.

But if you do end up needing a engine, give Buster Jenkins a call at Panhandle Tractors in Plainview TX. He is one of the good guys and knows his stuff. Not only does he own Panhandle Tractor, but he is also over the assembly plant in Plainview for Branson. I am confident he will steer you in the right direction.

Well I have an update, I’ve been feeling bad with covid but felt well enough to go out and check on the tractor. Hooked up some jumper cables from my truck and turned the key *click click click*. Hmm why not tap on the starter, so I give it a few good taps and turn the key, fired right up. So I cut it off and finished filling the radiator with water and fired it up. Made a run with the bush hog back to the house, no issues, no funny sounds. Checked the oil and it looks clean. So I parked it to see what you guys would do next? Overall I put a gallon of water back in it.

That sounds hopeful! I would try to determine what happened to the water that was in there. Is there a leak somewhere?

Next I would probably do a combustion chamber leak test to see of if there is any exhaust gas getting into the radiator. This would tell you if there is an issue with the head gasket. Most auto parts stores will let you use the test kit if you buy the chemicals needed.

Sorry to hear you have Covid! I hope you feel better soon!
