Can someone give me an idea of what I’m looking at spending for a new motor for my 2400? Mine ran out of coolant and overheated idk what happened but I need it fixed. Thanks for any help.
Are you sure it needs a new engine? Have you pulled it apart yet? Sorry for your troubles. I think Asteral can put you in touch with a guy in TX that has Branson parts.
To me that would indicate that it seized,
did you check your oil before you added water.
Also a half gallon wouldn't fill the radiator.
Some times an engine will surprise you,
if there is no water in the oil id try and get it to turn over.

I would rent or borrow a pressure testing kit. Then I would pressure test the cooling system up to the rated cooling system pressure and see how long (or if) it holds, as well as pressure test your radiator cap. Do you still have an overflow tank set up for your radiator to vent into? Check to see if the overflow tank is damaged or cracked and allowed the vented water to just run out. Maybe it all just vented out the cap when you ran it hot?
With cast iron block, cylinder head, manifolds and rotating bottom end, it's really difficult to over heat one of these so bad that it's junk.
It's not impossible to do, but you *really* have to work at it pretty hard.
If it ran good back to the barn, not missing on any cylinders or lugging, you may be alright after all.
Once you get it sorted out, put a fresh mix of antifreeze and distilled water in that thing. I wouldn't even run straight water in a southern state (I never used to run straight water in AZ).
