Just a couple questions, what happens if you are up there and lose power?

You certainly can run the battery down going UP using that 1KW motor.
Going down, however, requires only enough juice to open the DOWN
solenoid valve: a couple of watts. So, it would be a pretty catastrophic
failure that would keep you from lowering the basket from above. I
suppose if I were worried about that, I could keep a rope in the basket...
Since I am usually on my own, I would not have a helper who could use
the redundant lower controls.

I use a couple of wing nuts to attach my power and ground leads to the
battery post connector bolts. I WOULD like to replace my battery with a
top and side connection unit, however. Attaching the leads is pretty
fast as it is.

Another concern I thought of - can/do you disable the loader valve while operating the lift? It would seem pretty plausible that a falling object could land on the valve and send you for one heck of a ride if not.

That's a good point. I should lock the loader valve or turn the tractor
off if there is any chance of falling objects hitting the joystick.

This is a good point. Not sure how you can lock them, on mine with the tractor off I can still hit the lever to release the pressure. You could make others on here feel better by adding some flip down type stabilizers and keep a cell phone on you ;)

As for the wiring, how about some of those really thick connectors used for snow plows and other items listed on here? I hate having to unbolt stuff.

Genie uses 2-pole connectors for the 12V battery, but I did not like them.
You can not get inside them to clean up the contacts, and they were
somewhat resistive from sitting outside for years. I debated getting new
connectors, but they are fairly large, and I do not have a lot of free
space under the hood near the battery. I do not want the connectors
hanging outside my grille when not in use.

With my setup, I can remove both battery contacts faster than I can
remove the 3/4" pins for any of the structural connections.

BTW, Kioti uses cable-operated FEL joysticks that are near the operator's
right hip, and lockable for both valves.
