Good post on the 2320. It's the machine I will be getting. Glad to hear you like it so much.

On the magnets... great idea. Hope this doesn't sound dumb, but is there a way to better secure the magnet to the plug than just denting the top? I gotta wonder if there is the possibility of it coming loose with vibration and getting caught up in the gears of the tranny, etc. Maybe I am worrying about nothing, but can a set screw be put in? Better yet, are there drain plugs one can buy that are magnetized?

Stew

I used to drill the hole and fill it with the magnets and liquid steel epoxy which would cover the complete magnet. It sure is bullet proof but I found it wasn't necessary. Once the magnet slips into the hole it isn't going anywhere, denting the top is just extra insurance but go ahead and encapsulate it in epoxy it will be easier to clean off.

One more thing, when I cleaned the filter for the tranny I noticed some oil sitting in the bottom of the filter cavity. I decided to clean it out and found several metal filings from when the original box was machined, small burrs on gears, etc. After I cleaned it out I ran a strong magnet to get all the remains.

I had an Alfa Duetto spider once. It lost 1st & 2nd gear because a bolt came lose from the shift fork for this pair. I found the bolt and nut imbedded on the magnet that Alfa put in the drain plug.

I loved the lines on those old Alfa's and they sure ran like the dickens when they ran, not that the MGBs and Triumphs were any better. I blew more over drive boxes in my Triumph then the Queen has diamonds.
And the Lucas electrics were horrible.

That's the old joke:
Why do the Brittish drink warm beer?

Because they use Lucas refigerators.

My friend and I got lost all over Europe for pennies a day in a Fiat Piccolo when I was a kid, you could touch both windows with your elbos if you stretched out your arms. It took us three weeks to find the heater, it was a flap in the back seat.

FIAT = Fix It Again Tony.

Come to think of it, VWs weren't the best running cars either. They were just cheap and easy to fix and JCW had all kinds of terrible ideas on how to make your car look 'cool'. Like the aluminum bare foot gas pedal. How many of you remember that? Too bad I couldn't take my girl friend out to the movies because I blew my money on that little item. It wasn't a happy evening.

Oh well, back to tractors.

I haven't heard that Fiat acronym since I sold my 124 Spyder in 1979.

When I hit 100 hrs, probably fall at the rate I am going, July, August, and September are pretty hectic at work, the entire tractor will get switched to full synthetic.

The 2320 continues to surprise me. Today I lifted an 8 x 10 ft deck made out of 2x8s with a chain attached to the bucket hooks and the tractor was not even working hard. Picked it up, carried it for about 100 ft so it is out of the way when I work on that part of the house, and set it down as gentle as you please.
What was I thinking of waiting for three years to get a tractor?

Ed,
That spider was a neat car. One blew the doors off my TR250 on a windy road one day and I was sliding through turns with everything I had. It just out cornered me hands down.

I drove out to back pack into the Grand Canyon once in an MG Midget. I was so cramped that I didn't have any feeling in my right leg for a couple of days.
Aside from that it was a good trip. I got 38 mpg and hiked 9 miles uphill in 110 F with 44 lbs of cameras and gear. The best part is that night I drank a six pack of beer without having to go to the campsite outhouse once!

Glad you like your 2320 too.

Now if I can only get mine to fit through the kitchen door so I can hook up the PTO to the dish washer.
