I was pricing out a quick hitch at another dealer and he said I would have to check to see if it was compatable. I said it was new so it should be. He said since 2004 they are all compatable and the serial number should end in 4, 5 or 6. Mine ends in 3 and when I was checking I noticed areas of freshly sprayed paint and faded paint. I'm starting to feel like a real sucker. Do you guys think there is anything I can demand from threm?

How does the noise scale with engine RPM; I assume is does? Do you also hear the noise with only the rear PTO engaged? My 62" mower noise (pretty sure it's mower and not tractor) definitely increases significantly above 2800 RPM, but doesn't sound anything as disturbing as your describing. Actually, I would say 3000-3100 rpm is just slightly louder than I was hoping for with 2600-2800 being very quiet. I will break out the sound meter tomorrow and measure. I'm fairly certain my 2305 is quieter under all conditions than my 54" 335, but it could be that the frequencies are different on the 2305 and less noticeable. I would be interested in knowing just how loud this noise is if you happen have a sound meter (e.g. from Radio Shack). I would think you would also have a stronger case if you can measure noises significantly louder than rated and to the point of increasing hearing damage.

Any case, I would quickly do the A-B compare with another 2305 and argue to swap something (mower deck, tractor), etc if the noises are significantly different. Even is the noise is not due to any actual damage occuring in the system, it sounds like besides being plain annoying, you will be forced to always wear hearing protection under all mowing conditions to avoid hearing damage. I always wore hearing protection on the 335, and while I probably should also for good measure on the 2305, I suspect I could get by without, especially if I dropped the RPMs a bit.

Finally, I think your odds of being remedied go down the longer you wait and more hours you put on the tractor.

Hopely this will yet turn out well for you...

Hi Yes the noise does vary with the change in rpms. When I move the throttle the noise changes faster than the sound of the mower changes. The noise is when the mid pto is engaged. I listened to several John Deere mowers last nite and on all of them the loudest sound is the sound of the mower. Also on my tractor last nite when I lifted the pto all the way up the mower slammed to the ground. The mechanism that does not seem to be touching the three point enough. When I did get the mower up I locked it. When I then let the three point down the mower went down about three inches before it stopped. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Thanks for your help.

My brother-in-laws deck would fall down at times and not come up at other times. He did not have anything on the 3PH so the lift arms were swinging in the breeze. I put his I-match on and that ended the problem.

The noise you are hearing while the deck is running I think may be just normal vibration from the deck resonating up through the frame. My mom would always hear a noise in the car so dad would turn up the radio and ask if she could hear it now. Dad knows how to fix everything.

If I understand the problem of the deck falling correctly, this happened to me. When I first got my 2305 with 62 MMM, I noticed a "rod" across the lower links on the TPH. Turns out it was a spreader or spacer bar which holds the TPH in proper position so the left lower link will engage the mower lift mechanism. I have since replaced it with a 24" drawbar. This maintains the correct spacing, plus it is functional.
