There is one big difference between the two that might be a big deal to you - depending on how 'fine' a lawn you have (and want to keep), how wet (soft) your property is, and how heavy of other jobs you want to do. Weight. The 2210 weighs half again as much as an X-series. That could be bad or good depending on your priorities but something to consider.
Another distingusing characteristic - the 2210 is diesel only, but the X-series does offer the gas-powered water-cooled version in addition to the diesel. I think nearly everyone here on TBN would prefer the diesel for many reasons, but there are some minor advantages to the water-cooled gas engine. I haven't compared them but it's supposed to be noticeably quieter than the diesel, and you can use plain unleaded and not have to have extra cans of diesel around (and search out a place convenient to buy it) and it may be a little less fuss to deal with in cold weather (think snow-blowing). It will also be a LOT thirstier than the diesel however.
