According to the owner's manual, the sight glass should be at 1/2 or 3/4 with the implements fully lowered and when the unit is cold. Mine shows about 1/8 full and 7/8 empty. However, after mowing, it is just the opposite, i.e., only 1/8 empty and 7/8 full. Is this normal? I realize the fluid expands when warm, but should I add anything at this point? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since as usual, I know enough to be dangerous. Many thanks!

I would leave it alone.
Having the fluid ~1/2 in the sight glass does make it easier to see at a glance, but as long as you have something showing in the sight glass, it is OK.

And yes, the fluid expands when warm which is why you are seeing a higher level after using it.

If it makes you feel better, go ahead and add some, but do it very slowly - little bit at a time, and give it time to settle down. You definitely don't want to overfill it.
