I got stuck in the mud and had to wash everything. I didnt realize the dipstick was out of the tranny. Im not really sure if i got water in the case or not. I had to run it to get it on the trailer but it wasnt milky after i loaded it. Do i need to buy the hydro fluid for a cub or does it use regular hydro fluid?
Thanks.

Well, just unloaded it and put it the barn. Its milky.ERRRRRR!

Use Shell Rotella-T 15w40 in place of the ~$10/qt drive system fluid plus.

Thnks Joel. I am a firm believer in synthetics. Should i use a synthetic in this case? All of the new diesel oils have a high zinc formulation (wich i use to break in our race motors). Since a hydaulic fluid is a low viscosity, would a 5w40 be better than the 15w40? Thanks for your help. Dwight.

These transaxles spec motor oil, not hydraulic oil. 15w40 or 5w40 are both a 40wt at normal operating temps. The 5w40 will flow easier in extreme cold. 5w40 is an excellent choice for the engine and transaxle on these. It's just more expensive (and a synthetic blend) than 15w40. I run Shell Rotella-T 5w40 in the Kohler Command 20 in my 2544 and 15w40 in the trans.
