210 question

I've always liked and wanted a Case 210, but ten horsepower seems a little on the low side. Would a 14 h.p. engine from a 224 (or 444) be a direct bolt in for the 210? I thought they might have used the same engine from the 220 for the 210 as a cost saving measure. If so, how would the Peerless transaxle hold up to the extra horses? My property is very hilly and I would love to have one for use as a mowing machine and nothing more. Thank you.

My understanding is that Case used the exact same spec in the 210 as in the 220. There is a pulley on the stub shaft of the Kohler and that drives a V-belt connected to the Peerless trans-axle. That trans-axle is pretty rugged so I see no reason to not drop a K-321 in the frame. After all, the engine is going to power a deck and you could then install a 48 inch deck, thanks to the engine power change. When mowing grass, the 14 HP isn't going to strain the trans-axle any more than the 10 horse motor will. Whatever torque is needed to propel the tractor isn't going to increase just because you installed a different engine. Go for it. A lot of people love the 210.

Just be sure that you get one that is 100 percent complete. Having a weak motor is OK but you want the tractor to have a motor so that you have everything you need to change over to the K-321. You don't see that many 210's being parted out and you don't want to have to buy new parts.
