2025: Year of the Tick

Well I guess all I had to do was complain in this thread and then all my tick problems would magically go away. Haven't seen one in weeks now, even after multiple days of working in the woods. We do always get a spring surge followed by a summer lull, then one final round of high activity in the indian summer of fall.

Ticks went away just in time for the mosquitoes and deer flies to start finding me last night instead, haha.

We started out with ticks like everywhere! Thought it was going to be a banner year here but now they're far and few. Mosquitoes and deer flies have been modest so far.

Years ago, I was walking around Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes, Del. which is across the bay from Cape May, NJ. The ticks were literally blowing in the wind. I decided to make it a short visit.

There are advantages to living in the desert. No ticks, chiggers or mosquitos!

The UP has no poisonous snakes and fresh water, everywhere. I believe Keweenaw country has the most coast line in the USA.

Houghton county is certainly gorgeous. I don't know which county comes in second, but Washington county Maine might be a competitor, especially if one counted islands and its riverine border with Canada.

I pulled a tick off the dog yesterday.
I think that makes a dozen between the wife, dog and I so far this year.
So far all dog ticks, but earlier one of the neighbors kids had seed ticks.
We usually get 2-3 per year. and I'm out in the woods most days.
