Really like our 2 2003 HD Cummins equipped Dodges. 150k on mine and the wife's has 75k/

Hers gave us a scare last week wouldn't start sometimes. Had it towed to the dealer.
One factory Key fob was getting weak after "20" years and not correctly handshaking with the ECU causing a security fault.
New key will be in this week, imo Good trucks. Glad RAM went back to the Proven CP3 pumps.

Really have been happy with my 2007 Dodge with 5.9 Cummins. About 160k miles and still a very solid dependable truck. Of course the new trucks use the 6.7 Cummins, but they are all very reliable and cheaper to maintain than the v design diesel motors. The truck itself has been rock solid; just requiring brakes and a few minor things like a U joint.

I’m still waiting for my warranty pump replacement on my CP4, but it hasn’t skipped a beat. I’m working mine as hard as it could possibly be worked and nothing to complain about. We are in the process of hauling a LOT of hay-3 loads per week at 45,000+ per load. No issues so far, but one never knows….

As of today, I would buy another Ram. I am not brand loyal and that could change if I decide to get another truck. The Cummins is the heart of the truck and really makes it as tough as nails.

Always keep your eyes open and avoid brand loyalty.

RAM (Stellantis) pickup trucks and chassis only vehicles have excellent drivetrain's but the sheet metal and driveline components (other than the engine and transmission) are questionable, especially the sheetmetal so if you live in an area where road salt is used, don't expect the body to last.

The driveline will most likely outlast the sheet metal. GM and Ford are much better as far as sheetmetal goes concerning corrosion and the GM diesels and Allison transmissions are also excellent. Ford, not so much. If I was looking for longevity in a truck, considering today's prices, I'd be purchasing a GM product with their Diesel and Allison transmission.

If you live in corrosion country and are looking at a used truck, I'd be looking underneath the truck carefully as well, especially the bottom of the doors and the lower sill as well as the fender arches above the wheels.

It snows once or twice a year where I live so salt isn't an issue but I'm buying it from PA so it might be where it's coming from. Waiting on underneath pictures of the 2021 now.

Back in January of 2020 I bought a 2016 Ram 3500 Big Horn DRW with 76,000 miles for $39k out the door. The truck has the Aisin with 4.10 rear end, front and rear parking sensors, four wheel drive, back up and cargo camera. I tow a 46’ living quarter horse trailer with it just fine. Don’t go to the dealer for oil changes, transmission filter, fuel filters or CCV filter as they’ll rip you off. The only issue I’ve had was the DEF pump failing, but that’s taken care of now and will never be a problem.

I'm looking at a 2016 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn dually tomorrow. Has the turbo diesel engine and asin transmission. Not sure on the axel ratio will have to get under it to find out. Will be towing a 14k bumper pull trailer with it right now but might upgrade to a 5th wheel so I can tow the vibratory plow and mini excavator at the same time later.

It has 115k miles and is 50k usd. Comes with "free" lifetime oil changes and state inspections.

I've never owned a dodge just ford's. Anything I need to look out for? Or any opinions on it would be appreciated.

Thanks.
I have a 2004 Ram 3500 with only 165000 miles. Only a water pump along with tires and battery replaced. Pull a 5th wheel RV and it does even know it is pulling. Goes into 6th gear at 55 miles an hour and doesn't downshift unless it's a big grade.

Most definitely do a DPF/EGR delete and get a good HP tuner; rid yourself of the bogging epa nonsense.
There's emissions intact tuning that's just as good as deleted now. Calibrated Power did mine and it runs like a scalded cat. Haven't had the first problem with the emissions system. Trick is apparently running lean and flowing more Def. Keeps the soot down for the dpf and the def flow keeps the injector clear.

Until another brand comes with a 6 cylinder Cummins, I'm brand loyal.

Hay Dude, you can get a Aisin transmission in a 3500, single or dual rear wheel but not the 2500. It doesn’t have to be a chassis cab but it does have to be a 1 ton.

My '19 2500 Laramie CTD has been good to me for last 3 yrs. I have the CP4 & still on wait list at dealer for its recall. But it starts n GOES with zero CELs to date. Owned Fords, Chevs, Dodges, Yotas, Jeeps, Nissans and I feel like my Yotas and Chevs were the biggest POSs but that's just me. I looked at everything but for the money ($55k new pre covid) I felt the Ram was the best package.

But its an upgrade/option, right?

Daughter and husband bought an 18, had one recall right after another with no parts to repair or replace. Check the recall history of the specific model and the specific engine, before you jump. They just traded it in on a Jeep Cherokee of all things.......

They don’t come standard with the Aisin, you are correct, it’s an upgrade.
Standard with 3500/4500/5500 cab & chassis dually, but optional on 2500/3500 SRW

Easiest way to tell if it has the aisin tranny is the dipstick location. Aisin tranny will have the dipstick on the drivers side. 68rfe will be on the passenger side.
