2014 Hay Season

I like the Vermeer Tri-Colored net wrap over the others I have been using. Don't think will have the issue of it wrapping where it shouldn't be,a lot tougher it seems. Does anyone prefer one brand over another I haven't come across yet? Got 15acres laid down get the other 15 laid down today, field should make pretty good. Been debating on going ahead and running Tedder over it but it's an added cost don't know if worth it or not, haven't done it in the past. What's yall's option on it?

Depends on how heavy/thick it is, how the humidity is, the coming weather, and your time schedule for baling.
Tedding is good wifey work.:) unless it sacrifices her good cooking....

Do you leave all your rolls outside or are some of the "never been wet" put in a barn?

How do you come up with it takes over twice as many 4X6 bales to equal your amount of 5X6 bales???????? All other things equal actually there only could be 20% more hay in a 5X6 than a 4X6!

theres 2 ways ive came up with my figures.1 we fed 4by 6 bales for a winter.and our cows was eating 10 bales a week.thats 12000lbs week give or take.last year we started baling our own hay and fed 8 to 10 bales a week.now mind you last year we was running close to 100 cows calves and heifers.plus we wasnt making them clean the hay rings up before haying again.plus if the bales was 4 by 6s we wouldve had 320 bales to haul insted of 168.

Scientifically your 2 ways leave out some things out of REALITY. I still state ALL THINGS EQUAL a 5X6 bale is ONLY 20% larger than a 4X6 bale not 50% larger. Maybe the 4X6 bales contained higher quality, more palatable hay!!!!!!!!

Actually the volume of a 4 x 6 roll is about 63% of the volume of a 5 x 6 roll however if both rolls were made from the same cutting and dryness, one after the other, at the same tightness and both stored next to each other outdoors there is more waste in the smaller roll when opened for eating so the bigger the roll the more efficiency in making and in baling cost from wrap, fuel, transportation time, etc. so I can see bigbull338's reasoning and results in the real world.

My 3 room school house elementary school education doesn't agree with you 63% statement. ALL THINGS EQUAL 5X6 bale contains 141.37 cu ft of hay while a 4X6 contains 113.1 cu ft of hay. Multiply 141.37 X 80% and one gets 113.09 cu ft. Multiply 113.1 X 125% and one gets 141.17. So where does 63% calculate into this?

ok ive got a curve bale for you.mind you i havent tested this 1 out and never will.just going on what i know about balers.if you run a 4 by 6 silage special baler on green or dry hay the bales will weigh 1600 to 1800lbs more or less because the rotating knives chopping the hay finely.

OK but fail to see the correlation of chopping knives to bale size. I would think chopped bale will weigh more than un-chopped bale. JD advertises their 469 SS to make a 2200# bale

ok if you agree with that then a 5 by 6 dry bale can easily weigh 2000lbs dry.heck back in the 80s we tryed hayledge round bale in a tubb bag that held 40 bales and those bales was 1800lbs easy.because they would pop the big 772qt ford loader.the baler was an 855 NH chain baler.
