2010 dodge ram 2500/3500

I bought a new Ram about 1 1/2 years ago. I looked really hard at a 2500 4x4 with a Cummins. It was way to expensive. At the time they were giving a $5000 rebate and taking almost another $5000 off. On 3/4 ton diesels they were taking about half that much off the sticker plus the truck cost alot more. It would have cost me at least $10,000 more. I think they are trying to fill that niche for people like me that want the economy of a diesel, still want to be able to tow and haul, but don't want a 3/4 ton.

I always considered a 2500 to be a 3/4 ton and the more or less only recently available single rear wheel 3500 to be a "light duty" one ton.

I would like to update my 97 Dodge with something newer but this economy scares me so I am just trying to keep it going for now since the engine is still strong. I would not buy new regardless but the current situation gives me reason to pause about even buying another used Dodge. I see no good for buying any replacement parts that have to be Dodge sourced with Chrysler's struggle to survive and Fiat buying 35% interest.

If your looking to update from a 97 look at a 03-05 even the 06. I dont understand why people are scared to update to new trucks the emmissons arent that mad just quite. we have 3 trucks with the DPFs on them a 5500 cummins a 3500cummins and a 3500 Dmax all run great with no problems. I cant wait to see the new motors in 2010

I guess I am just kicking and screaming about letting go of my old 12valve mechanical pump non computerized engine, ha! Maybe I will just keep it around for a repower since the truck is not really worth much.

Dont get me wrong the 12valve is a tryed and true motor the only thing i dont like is that it gives me a headache. thats what i like about the 6.7 lots of power and quite but not to quite.

That 12Valve is worth more than you think. A guy down the street owns a diesel shop. They specialize in Cummins powered trucks but also do work with Powerstrokes and D-Max. Daves Diesel - Diesel Injection Service & Performance Diesel Products

Anyway I hear that the 12 Valve is a much stouter engine than the 24 valve. They are sought after to make pulling trucks and such. The guys son's personal truck is a 12 Valve making over 800HP at the rears. Atleast that is what I gather, he is very secretive but his dad is not so. I was told by his dad, the owner, it is a twin turbo, stacked chips, big injectors and pump, ect, ect, ect pulling 80psi of boost.

My guess is the engine is worth more out of the truck in the right market than a running truck is. They love to take late model 24 valve trucks and build a stout 12 valve to stick in them.

How is he running chips on a 12valve?

Also Ive heard that the new 2010 diesel will have 2 ECMs so if you try to put a DPF delete chip on them it will erase the chip.

Not sure how he is running chips. I believe they make custom chips. I believe what they are doing is using the late model electronics and components on the 12 valve blocks. From what I gather from talking to them the 12 valve platform is much stouter than the 24 valve. Either way the Cummins is a great engine but like you said the early ones should have came with ear plugs.

Ok got yea becuase there in now way a stock 12Valve can run chips its mechanical, I bet that would make some sick power though with the chips injecters and twins.
