I just wanted to say thank you very much to everyone who helped with this!
It was indeed the alternator. Today I replaced the damaged wire, the fan belt, and the alternator. Before installing the new alternator, I replaced the damaged generator wire first to see if it was the wire and not the alternator. It still did not work. After replacing the alternator, the battery light went away, and after testing with the multimeter, the readings are where they belong.
I topped it all off with an oil change, niplet greasing, air filter change, and plugging a leaking tire. I am hopeful that I am good to go for the winter.
Next on the list is to find out what is causing the tachometer to be stuck at 311 hours since the day I bought it.
