I just wanted to say thank you very much to everyone who helped with this!

It was indeed the alternator. Today I replaced the damaged wire, the fan belt, and the alternator. Before installing the new alternator, I replaced the damaged generator wire first to see if it was the wire and not the alternator. It still did not work. After replacing the alternator, the battery light went away, and after testing with the multimeter, the readings are where they belong.

I topped it all off with an oil change, niplet greasing, air filter change, and plugging a leaking tire. I am hopeful that I am good to go for the winter.

Next on the list is to find out what is causing the tachometer to be stuck at 311 hours since the day I bought it.

Thanks again for all the awesome help!~

Good Job! The TBN Team wins again!

That's the Kioti Team on TBN.

I think you, the OP, mean the hour meter, not the tach. Could be something in the dash cluster, maybe damaged when the wire burned on the manifold and killed the alternator. You could pull the cluster and see if there is any evidence of arcing, burnt circuits etc., as a place to start.

Yes I did mean the hour meter is not working. It's been stuck since the day I bought it.

I did read somewhere that it can get stuck from a bad alternator? Now that the alternator is working I have the tractor sitting out there running int he hopes that the meter will move up and that maybe the alternator was bad from the day I bought it.

Sorry, not trying to leave anyone out, just jokingly calling the team Team Kioti since mostly 'we' are trying to fix Kiotis.
Thanks goes to ALL who contribute, Old Pilgrim too.

That was my logic, but I wasn't sure if you had the alternator issue since day one. If the new alt makes the hour meter live consider yourself lucky. Somewho I thing the burnt wire may have toasted the hour meter too. Let us know the result, OK?

In digging around in the archives, I seem to remember that quite a few people with older DKs bought used, that the hour meter is just stuck at some number. Don't know if this is a general thing, but there may be something going on there, like with the ignition switch. Not a huge problem though, just irritating,

I'm not sure how the hour meter works on the DK SE models. But I thought I read somewhere they might run off the alternator.
But the older DK's (pre SE models) used a tachometer cable to drive the tach/hour meter.
I have broke a tachometer cable or 2 on my 2001 DK over the years. I think they were only around 8 or $10 to replace.
