2008 Kioti CK20 Start Issues - "Signal Flasher Black Box" Making Noises

Thanks so much for all the advice! It's supposed to be a crappy week with weather here so I may take out the alt on Wednesday when it's raining outside. I really love the tractor and don't want to trade it so I will focus on fixing the alt, and then I will worry about fixing the dash so it shows the correct hours and keeps track of them. I am hoping it's just the alternator, but I did notice this morning that one of the red wires going from the positive terminal, to the alternator is semi melted. Could this cause my issues or do you think it's still the alternator? Either way I know I should fix the issue with the melted wire.

Yes fix that wire!! That could be your problem or problem #2

I think I just found what may be the real culprit, though I am not 100% sure so I took some photos. Another forum member sent me the book and upon reading my book I learned I was testing belt tension in the wrong spot so I opened up the side panel and the belt is REALLY loose. Actually, when I press on the belt, I can see something inside the alternator move.

The manual shows me the lower bolt as you can see in photo 1 and says to tighten it down. I did this, and nothing changed with belt tensionj. The second photo shows the top of the alternator where it looks like a nut may be missing?

Is there somewhere else I should be tightening?

I just spent the last 10 minutes looking over the diagram and I figured out how to tighten the belt. It's pretty tight now and the alt is spinning, but the battery light is still on, and my voltmeter is not increasing after I start the engine so I know that the alt is not charging the battery.

I took a photo of the burned out wire going into the alt. Could this particular wire be the issue? I would like to replace it regardless. Does anybody know what it's called? It has a plug on one side and the other connects directly to the alt as you can see in the photo. Thanks!IMG_0382.JPG

Your second picture shows the location of where you tighten the belt. The bolt that hold the alternator to that sliding bracket is what allows you to adjust belt tension. I cannot tell from the picture if you are supposed to have a nut on that bolt or if the alternator is threaded to except that bolt. This is a fairly simple process you should easily be able to understandby loosening those bolts you should be able to move it one way to loosen move the other way two tighten and retighten both bolts. If bolt in second picture does not seem to hold alternator snug then you are most likely missing a nut. Please remember safety first make sure negative battery cable is removed before for you do any repair work.

That is your charging wire. yes replace it. And that belt looks to need replacing too.

Ahh. My charging wire! It's such a short piece that is damaged. Any idea of what the part is called so I can order it online? Would be great if this were the issue and not the alt!

Get on this site and see if you can find it and replace the belt too. Your belt should not be loose and it looks like the edges are worn. Here it is T4686-69491 HARNESS WIRE, GENERATOR CABLE $5.54. Check and make sure at Error

Excellent! Thank you very much. I ordered it from Nolts as they are the only ones who offer $3 shipping as opposed to $20 shipping for a $5 part. I was looking on Michigan Iron before your post and I could not find the part for the life of me!!! Thanks. Hopefully it arrives fast and is the problem!

when you get that burned wire off, check it out good to see if you can figure why it burned. It's probably a bad crimp, but it would be nice to know to determine if the alt overloaded it.

I already found why it burned. It was loose from the zip tie and resting on part of the exhaust and it melted! I really hop this is the issue. They said I should have it by the end of the week or next week.
