2008 f350 v10?

My buddy is a lineman for Comcast. His region exclusively bought F-450 and F-550 bucket trucks with the V10 engines for many years. He said they are absolute garbage when worked hard. Blown engines, manifold failures, 6 MPG wherever he goes, and just always something wrong with them. He says they rarely make it much past 100k miles. Much of the time he's in a "loaner" truck for work since his is always in the shop. So when he decided to buy a personal truck he went with the 6.2L V8.

That whole story sounds pretty over dramatic. But on the unlikely event the V-10s actually did treat them that bad just imagine what a 6.0 or 6.4 would have been like. And the F-450 was the only real game in town for a long time. GM dropped the heavy class pickup in the early 2000s (3500HD) and still doesn’t make anything comparable. Ram didn’t introduce a 4500 until 2008 and didn’t gain any real market share until more recently.

Doesn’t sound dramatic to me. A large construction company went to V-10’s off the 6L debacle and ended up repairing them a lot, too. Spark plug spitting & exhaust manifold bolts along with single digit fuel mileage were his biggest problems. Went to GM as a solution.

I like GM better anyway but if you wanted a 450 in the 2000s that was unfortunate.

Spark plug spitting was over with by the time the 6.0 went into production, and Chevy has the same exhaust manifold bolt issues as Ford.

Get your time line in order is all I can recommend.

By the way, Ford continues to dominate the market, so a lot of these stories are hyperbole.

Those things have been out of production for years.

The replacement is an International with a Chevy cab and a Duramax / Allison powertrain. International sells the same truck, albeit with a different front clip.

I know, but 4750 was referring to the early 2000’s.

My timeline is in perfect order. Learn how to read & comprehend is all I can recommend.

They dropped those pretty early on. I wouldn’t really consider those or the new model they make now a fair comparison to a 450 anyway. They’re a lot bigger built truck. You might as well get a 6500 at that point and have way more payload.

a 2002 Chevy 4500 15,000 GVWR puts it in exact same class & category as a 2002 Ford F-450 at 15,000 GVWR.
I owned an F-450 with a 7.3L. The 4500 was it’s GM competitor.
Although the GM was much better.
