2007 l3400 hst transmission leak.

Leakage is in the HST valve area. It is not severe yet but starting to drip on the garage floor after usage. I am now trying to locate the cause. I have taken the bodywork around the area off and will clean the transmission case. The area in question is basically under the floorboards. The valve case is a couple inches wide and sandwiched between the clutch case and the mid case, or just forward of the fluid level window. This window is not the source of the problem. I have a parts manual which is very helpful with its diagrams. I also have the WSM but it appears that the info provided is related to the manual transmission, not the HST as it should. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions that may help me move this issue forward. Thanks. C.

I'd look to tighten things. Of course, tighten to spec. When things are cleaned up it should become more obvious where the leak(s) is occurring, so maybe wait before you get a better view (unless you want to swing your wrenches a bunch- tighten everything in sight).

I got it all cleaned up and minimally reassembled for operation. I suspect that the leak emanates from the casing seal/gaskets but I will monitor before I tighten anything. Not much room to get a torque wrench on those 6 stud nuts. I would appreciate any response as to what type of torque wrench/accessories is commonly used for tight spots. Thanks.

Yeah, reaching into high and out of the way places is nearly impossible to get a proper torque on. All I can offer is that crows-feet can work in some cases where a socket won't fit: assumes, of course, that you angle enough to swing the torque wrench.
