2005 TC29DA arrived with bad fuel

There is something to be said about dealers and service. The 1700 Yanmar I purchased 14 years ago from a reputable dealer dealt with A grade Yanmar imports. The unit was painted but only had 667 hours and had a complete service by the dealer before my purchase. I'm sure that the cost of that service was included in the price, but with the reputation of the dealer and my friendship with the salesman, I knew that I had a good unit. 14 years later and almost 1250 hours...no repairs at all to the unit. Well if you count two worn out front tires.

If the tractor was listed and sold "as is" then I guess all bets are off.
I would have called him before the purchase to get more info as to the condition of the unit. If I was in your shoes and only had bad fuel and needed a filter I would let it rest.

Zipperhead, I think I may have been bidding against you on this Ebay auction. During the auction I called the guys at Ewald and got the impression this was the last of their NH inventory, so I'm not sure the NH folks would be able to apply much pressure to them. They didn't seem very customer service oriented over the phone - that's what did it for me.

I hope the few initial problems you have had will be resolved shortly. At the end of the day you got a great deal on (what will hopefully be) a great tractor. Enjoy.

Yes, I should have been more careful. I was a little worried about buying the tractor on eBay but I felt better once I heard it was coming from a New Holland dealer. The same tractor here in the Denver area was going for $20,000+ and I got this tractor for $15,200, so I figure i saved $5,000.

My local New Hollland dealership checked it out and made the repairs to get the tractor running so for now everything is good with the exception of my "uneven" loader.

As for Ewald tractor.....I would caution anybody from doing business with them. Once they got my money they stopped communicating with me and refused to make things right.

wow I cant believe what Im reading. "call the TV and Papers, NH ,BBB." PLEASE you bought the tractor for "$5000.00+" less than your local dealer would have sold you one that had been preped, fueled and ready. What did you expect. I am glad you local dealer helped you. I would have put you at the bottom of my list every day,When all my customers machines were fixed and preventitve services were done then I would have worked on yours. And hopefully none of my customers would have called me with problems while I was working on your machine, or you would get bumped again. I dont work on tractors but I do work on high dollar, high quality printing presses. That cost hundreds of dollars an hour for down time. And people wonder why dealerships close, and cost more than ever to have them do any work. seems like the ones that argue with me when I say dealers have to eat too, are the first ones to whine when the have to drive farther to get to a different dealer.

All dealers are different, some have that feeling which is understandable if you buy a new tractor from a neighboring dealer just to save a couple bucks. But in this case I doubt the local dealer can fault him in this deal. I am sure the dealer would jump at a deal where they would save $5k. They also know that they are the dealer he is coming to now for service work and parts, fluids and possibly implements. They make their money still.

My local NH dealer is great. I buy from them when they have something I need in the price range I want. But I also buy from a couple other dealers but I buy all Ford/NH equipment when I can and my NH dealer gets all my parts business. My NH dealer even told me how great a deal I got on the 7710-II I bought from the Case-IH dealer. They hooked it to the dyno and the guys in the shop and I had fun with the dyno. Didn't charge me a dime. Since I have owned that tractor I have bought all my fluids and filters for that tractor from them as well as two new rear tires and had them change them out. They made money off of it none the less.

I still believe dealers make their money in parts and service and sell tractors as a side business.

Hey FiremanPat,

I didn't set the price of the tractor. They set the minimum price they would sell it for, not me. The bottom line is this. They sold the tractor as "New" not "As is". One should expect that a "New" tractor from a New Holland dealership would arrive in running condition no matter how much you paid for it. If not they should have advertised that the tractor would arrive in non-running condition and would need service prior to starting.

Although saving $5,000 is a good deal, $15,000 is still a lot of money. At least it is to me. I 've bought new and used cars, tractors and equipment my whole adult life so this type of stuff is not new to me. Why pay retail when you don't have to?

I gave my local dealer the chance to match the price on this tractor and they couldn't do it, that's business. As for treating me like a stepchild in the service process and bumping me in favor of their other customers, that wouldn't be good business. How much money have I spent on parts, accessories, implements? How many people have I referred to this dealership? When I buy my next tractor, where will I shop? Treating a customer badly is never good practice.

Maybe you can treat people poorly in your business but that doesn't work for most of us.

There is no way that he should have been moved down to the bottom of the list. What difference does it make where a tractor is bought? Part of the dealers contract with CNH is to do warranty work on any unit that is within it warranty period even if you did not sell it. Twice in the last few years I have sent a tech out to work on equipment that was sold and delivered by another dealer with 24 hours of it being delivered to the customer because the selling dealer was to busy to service what they sell. Both customers have made their next purchase from our dealership. Also the customer gets to fill out a questionaire about their purchase from CNH. The selling dealer get's dinged and we get thumbs up. May be part of the reason we have received the Presidents Award from CNH for the last 4 years in a row and the Service Excellent's award for the last 16 years in a row.
The dealership that straigtened out the fuel system mess should bill the selling dealer for Pre Delivery of the tractor as Pre Delivery is part of the contract with CNH. Look in the operators manuel and call the Customer Service phone number, they like to stir things up.:D

I'll agree with this to some extent. When I bought by dx24 I went local and paid around $800 more than I could have got several hours away. My dealer frequents my business, I'll scratch his back too. But for $5000 difference? Kinda hard to fault zipper for going elsewhere.

When I traded in my 24 for my DX33 I priced around again and talked to my local dealer. He ended up about $3200 higher than another dealer about 2hours away. The other dealer had a better price on the tractor and gave me alot more for the trade in. I went with the other dealer. I talked to my local dealer, let him know what the offer was and told him I appreciated him taking the time to give me a quote. I also let him know that I would continue to frequent him for all of my service, parts, attachments, etc. A full service by the way is not cheap. He agreed that I got a good deal and didn't offer to come down on his price any. No hard feelings, business is business. Most professionals understand this. I own my own business and understand this as well. I continue to use my local dealer for all my tractor needs and get great service. When someone asks about his business and tractors, he is highly recommended by me.

As for putting someone at the bottom of the list just because they bought the tractor from a competitor, anyone who's got even a small amount of business sense knows this is committing suicide for your business. Treat your customers like they're family, smile, act like you care even if you don't, and nod when the same guy comes in day after day spewing the same BS. You might not care but he apparently does and will leave feeling like you do as well. Word of mouth travels fast if its good and 10 times as fast if its bad.

Zipper.
Its this an established dealer on E Bay? I tried several variations of a search on ebay of the the name but came up bland. I'm curious what other buys have for feedback.
