I bought this tractor new in 2005. There does not seem to be a lot of them around and most people are not familiar with it. Had a couple folks tell me it is not a JD, it is an India tractor . I can get basic parts for it at the dealer and in my opinion it is one of the simplest utility/farm tractors around. Mine has been good to me. What is the opinion amongst my fellow JD owners ?

It is Deere, but made in India Deere plant.. there are Deere plants similar around the world.

Glad to hear it has been good to you.. that's likely the care you give it and the fact it is a Deere.

I am a stickler for maintenance and it is stored out of the weather. Here is a recent picture, about 6 months ago. It has about 400 hrs on it. Use is to grade and bush hog. IMG_4713.JPG

Had one until a year ago when I traded it in for a 5520. Awesome tractor. Mine had around 700hrs on it. Did everything I asked of it and kept on giving. Was afraid I was going to break it pulling my round baler.

Mine is the same way. Pulling my bush hog, box blade or disc, it just keeps working. Simple and reliable.

Thanks Guys, I started a new job about seven months ago and one of the tractors I am responsible for is a 5103. It’s hasn’t been used hard but sort of neglected at the same time. I believe I have all the filters for it on the shelf and I need to service it. I noticed the drop spindle in the right side has about an inch gap above sleeve. Also I am tired of wet butt games with the seat. When I look for 5103 seats on eBay or Amazon my options are very limited. Any help on these things would be appreciated.

Sincere Thank you for the link, exactly what I needed.

So is the seal, bearing, or bearing damaged and therefore the knuckle is pushed up through the axle knee?

Take it apart and see what is amiss or missing. Best way to find out..

Prolly the pic is 90 deg off because of using an iPhone and holding the phone vertical, instead of horizontal. It's a bug, thanks to Apple.

My guess is the bearing key 14 in the drawing beenthere posted has failed. I would ALSO replace the seal key 13 and check both bushings key 15, since you will have it apart.

Also check the other side, since it might be close to failing too. This is the kind of repair I do both sides if one side failed.

Thrustbearing failed !
When setting up these tractors at its widest that axle tend to brake at the wheelbearings ! Do not repair it . Just replace it !
