2000 445, mystery spring?

When I bought my current house I negotiated to keep the seller's 445 garden tractor, which came with a 60" mid-mount (set for mulching) and a two-way (hydro) front snow blade.

This part was in the tractor shed with some filters and such. Dunno what it's for, have never wished for it, but I can't bring myself to throw it out.

Does anyone know what this spring is for?

Yep your right, it's definitely a spring with hooks on both ends.

Belt tightener spring, but it is a broken one.

Goes on the front wheel of the mower deck. It helps keep it aligned when mowing.

That was my first thought also....but it's been a lot of years since I seen one so I wasn't 100% sure.

Let me snoop around in my old junk pile...

Do your 2 ends slide in/out of the coils like this?

Mine came off the right front mower deck wheel of an old 400 series with a 60? inch deck.
