$2 million CAT tractor build

We'll add this. The engines are assembled in Peoria. Patrs are sourced worldwide from the most cost effective suppliers, so that may be domestic or offshore.

Finally the castings are not domestic. All castings are cast offshore, especially large castings like engine blocks.

The units are 'assembled' from parts sourced worldwide, not 'made in the USA'.

Made and assembled are two intrely different animals.

About the only thing 'made' here anymore is babies......

Lots of those are inferior as well......:D

Actually Cat has its own foundry or possibly foundries. One of them is located just south of Peoria in Mapleton.

The engine for the D11 is assembled in Lafayette Indiana not Peoria. Smaller size engines are assembled in Mossville which is located just north of Peoria.

Yes Cat is a worldwide corporation with assembly plants around the world.

it seems everyone else is saying it too

cat is pretty big on their "made in america", even if *some* material/parts in from elsewhere. you made a blanket statement, that is much more untrue than true, and shows you dont know what you are talking about.

you even spelled your location of "greenville" wrong (greenvile):confused2:

you are right i did spell it wrong, i cant spell. o and merry xmass to you and happy new year to u to.

I could actually care less if it was assembled in your basement...

What I'm saying that Cateripllar like any other large corporation buys parts and assemblies from the lowest bidder no matter where they are located.

Come to think about it, considering how problematic Caterpillar's last on road engines were, they may very well have been assembled in your basement.....

In other words, they are JUNK.

So is John Deere and some other large companies when, in fact, none are 'made here', just assembled here.

It appears you don't know what your are spouting off either.... You must be a Harley owner. Harley owners have convinced themselves that assembled in America is the same as made here and that's just not true..... Even is Willie G says it is.

I could care less if it was greenville or green vile.....:)

I don't know if I've ever heard of anything that is 2 million dollars and is junk. Cat makes some of the best construction equipment in the industry and their engines are highly sought after. Some trucks have million mile Cat engines. That doesn't sound like junk to me.

Didn't know they costed that much. I gotta say, you could buy a lot of compact tractors with $2 million. :confused2:

It doesn't take long for small production units like D11's to get real pricey. A lot of the cost is also the tooling, fixtures, etc to actually make the thing. If Cat cranked out D11's in the same volume that Toyota cranks out Corolla's the cost per D11 would be much lower.

If I had to work on an assembly line, I'd rather build D11's than F-250's. At least the D11 workers are more like artisans building the machine than human automatons given 90-seconds or so per operation to build a car, truck, or widget.

The new EPA regs have choked the efficiency and reliability out of the over the road engines. CAT engines of late have had a lot of problems and they have decided to stop building them. I heard that they are clean slating a new designed and will be back.

Their truck engines aren't what they used to be, but Cat engines have been the best over time, before the regulations. They would still be good if that weren't the case but they aren't junk.
