1996 ford 3930 key switch wiring

   / 1996 ford 3930 key switch wiring #11
Just an update. Tracked all the wiring down and confirmed their locations and termination points. Got the new voltmeter out and checked all the locations on the switch and marked them hooked them up and still nothing. Anyone know of some test I can do on my solenoid? any other thoughts are appreciated as well.

What do you mean by "nothing"? Is the thermostart working? do you have indicator lamps (idiot lights) in the instrument panel when you turn the key to 'on'? Have you ohmed out the neutral safety switch circuit?

did you check any interlock switches.. IE.. from the key switch there are usually tranny interlock switches inline int he wire to prevent the solenoid from engaging.. etc.

Sorry bout the delay in replying been very busy.

When the key is turned on I do get idiot lights but trying to start it nothing else happens. I have ohmed the interlock switches in gear and out and all I get is an open circuit ( 1 on the meter).

Something else is the lights are acting odd and I haven't messed with those any. If the switch is turned just to the panel lights all is good. Going further to the panel lights go off and nothing else happens.

I'm almost at a loss. It seems like there is a wire missing both from the diagram I have and the tractor that should go to the solenoid. I don't know too much time in the heat this week blargh!

open safety switch sound like an issue to me.. look back there. IE.. bypass em and see what she does. keep in mind you are bypassing safety switches.. so observe caution.. etc..

If it is a safety switch, both are easy to get to and bypass. As you know on this series of tractor, the 2 speed (high/low) has to be out of gear to start. and two wires exit the top plate on the trans, with a connector that can be unplugged and easily bypassed.
PTO switch is under and behind the pto engagement lever. (as i think i noted in my origional post) its a micro switch with two about #6 screws holding it to the mounting bracket, AND both these screws also allow adjustment. You can easily close the switch by hand when trying to start the tractor. I'd vote for pto switch as the first suspect. A couple of times mine has loosened a bit and i've had to readjust it to have the switch closed when the pto lever is in the off position.

Well, Got some action sort of. I bypassed the neutral start switch but left the pto switch hooked up because it tested good. Got everything hooked up and turned the key to on and the starter relay started making a high pitched buzzing noise kind of like that noise a fly or mosquito right near your ear makes. ( ) Still no start. Got to find a relay somewhere and try it out.

The odd thing about the relay is it only does the buzzing when the wire from the safety switch is connected.

Dunno what's up with it. more poking and prodding i guess. :confused2:
