1953 (?) IH

I have been given an old IH by my father in law. (Yes, I know - I thought he was pretty cool before he gave me the tractor.) He thinks it's a 1953 model. Where would I look to find a serial number, or other confirming mark? Once that's done where would I find a manual (operator's at least)?

When he parked it two years ago it was running but not powerful enough to get rolling with the belly mower attached and running. Once I get it running again I'll check the timing and then most likely end up doing at least a head job.

The belly mower is driven by a convoluted belt system and the lift arms are forward of the operator's seat. Anybody have any experience converting to a 3-pt arrangement?

By the way.. that H is an awesome tractor if you can get it running right. i missed a chance on a good runner and kick myself to this day. had the same belly mower and big pully/belt setup.

The forward rockshaft is similar to what my cub has for hyds.

There are heavy 3pt aftermarket kits available. I priced one one time inthe 490$ range.. say.. 6ys ago. Hit a antique tractor mag.. there are always adds for the 3pt conversion in there.

Red power is a good magazine. if you need a repair manual.. look for an I&T.. they are pretty decent for basic to moderate stuff.

You may get lucky and it only needs a tune up.

Chris. it doesn't sound like an H to me if it has lift arms in front of the operator, more likely an A/Super A, or C/Super C.
I saw the pics of your 661 with the 1 arm loader. That is a share looking tractor. I used to have a 63 2000 with the one arm loader and that was a pretty good combo. Mine had the up and down 5 sp, and that was the easiest loader to take off and put on I've ever had

Bad eyes.. I thought he said he had an 'H' now I see it was printed as IH. I figured it was some sort of add on hyd setup.. etc.

Yep.. that stacked 5 speed was a bit hard to get used to. I liked the regular ford 4-spd setup.. but am now used to the semi 'shuttle' aspect of the 5spd with 3rd and rev across from each other..
