Do you have to have generator and voltage regulator polarized for motor to start?

No and unless it's a parade unit, I'd replace the Delco Remy generator with an alternator.

You only need the battery to start and run. The purpose of the generator or alternator is to recharge the battery as need so it doesn't go dead while you're running.

My dad's H had a 6v battery when he bought his. Changed the coil (and battery) to a 12v, unhooked the generator and used it like that for 30 years. He never used it more than 4-5 hours at a time. I always liked the steel finned radiator in his 42. Never ending relic of the War....

Interesting. My first tractor was a 41 Farmall dual fuel and it had a solid brass rad with copper alloy fins.

I think the copper shortage was after 41. Probably more like 42-43. It was Dec 41 when we went to War.

Not sure and that tractor is long time gone anyway. I went to diesel years ago.
