I am having a heck of a time removing the oil bath pan. The ring is completely off, the front of the pan drops, but I can't get it loose from the back. Any tips?

Is this on a New Holland or Kubota? The only "oil bath" pan I know of on any tractor would be the cup on an "oil bath" air cleaner. On my old Farmall C, once you get the clamp ring off, it pretty much drops straight down.

I would use a rubber mallet and beat the cup after the holder ring is removed. I think it is just gummed up. might use a heat gun to heat the filter cup to loosen hard dried up oil. It is oil and dirt can get trapped in the cup.

Heat gun and oil, that should go well together.....Tap it with rubber mallet as was stated above, or chase around mating rims with fine blade screw driver to loosen it up. I've been here before, the IH3444 is oil bath. Oil baths are about the most excellent air filtration older systems.

My 1900 oil bath air cleaner system works great. The rubber oil ring gets a little funny and have to bang it off with a rubber mallet but otherwise no issues. And the oil in there really isn't very dirty. The filter material gets dirty (metal screening). I use a solvent and air and wash it out well with water and dry it before reinstalling. Some dirt really comes out of there.

Ok I'll get out the rubber mallet, don't have a heat gun , lost a lot of things in hurricane Harvey.

It's a Ford 1900.

Got the pan off, thanks for the tips. Is this a normal amount of sludge? It was a bit lower than the full marker, not sure when the PO last changed, but I've spent around 8 hours on it brush hogging 5' weeds in the pasture and grading the driveway. 20180722_161015-1536x864.jpeg

Looks like it hasn稚 been cleaned in a pretty long time. On mine if I change it yearly it痴 pretty clean overall. Takes about three years for it to actually get even somewhat black and dirty. Remember it痴 not oiling any moving parts to get black. It痴 only air that draws the oil into the strainer filter and then transferred the dirt to the oil.
