i quess a little math might help me.

who many yards or cubic feet are in a typical dump truck?
how many yards or cubic feet can the 1850 and 2350 FEL hold?
how much does 1 cubic yard or cubic foot weight?

if i remember correcly the 2350 can lift about 520 lbs, and the 1850 os around 400 and change, is that right?

I just did this. A tandem axle dump (the bigger truck) will hold about 12 yards of topsoil that can weigh around 16 tons. I moved three of those loads with a bx1500. the loader can lift more wieght than the bucket will hold when it came to the topsoil. I know this becasue I also filled the FEL FULL of rock and it still lifted.

You may notice the loader lift capacity when digging into the pile. The FEL on the bx1500 (400lbs rated) had a hard time lifting if you tried to dig and lift from the bottom of the pile. However, I suspect you might have similar proble no matter which tractor you go with. Once I got a little practive thoug, I could get a heaping bucked every time without fiddling with it.

Keith has a really good point to. The extra cash could buy some cool toys.:D

Agreeing with Mr. Wolfe a lot today.

Regarding capacity: 4.2 cf vs. 4.9 cf struck. When you're "heaping", that's high in the center, a little low on the sides, so perhaps you're "heaped" another 10% of capacity (this is all perfect world stuff). Good dirt is some 120# per cf, so you're STRUCK at 504# and 588# for the 1850 and 2350, respectively. Perfect world.

In reality, the dirt is looser, so it is lighter. I recently carried 640# of salt with my 500# rated bucket quite easily. And with the smaller bucket on the 1850, you probably won't ever notice the slightly lower rating.

Another thing I noticed: It's amazing how quickly the bucket is overcome when you're doing something silly. What kwolfe mentioned about getting dirt from the top, rather than the bottom, of the pile? I have to do the EXACT same thing with some 45% more HP and a larger, higher capacity bucket. Think about all the dirt on top of the "bottom" of the pile you're asking the bucket to lift through. Try it with a shovel...dig straight in and lift straight up. Tough to do. Same thing with pulling stumps. You aint dead-lifting a stump straight out of the ground like a Caterpillar Excavator or something, 1500, 2230, 1850 or 2350.

If I went back in time, I'm 100% certain I'd be just as happy, if not happier, with a 1500 over the 2230. Things I'd miss from my 2230: 60" mower, fuel guage, and being able to add a BH. Things I'd like about the 1500: size, size, size. Simply a stupendous machine, especially considering its size. And it would have been a solid $3,000 or more cheaper than my machine.

Now that I own the 2230, FOR WHAT I DO WITH MY PERSONAL MACHINE, the bucket capacity hasn't been a real big deal, nor has the extra HP. But I do plan on getting a BH in a month or two, so I'm glad I got the larger machine that can handle most anything I throw at it.

There really isn't any way to go wrong between the two. It just depends on if you're doing heavier stuff plus some mowing or a bunch of mowing with some heavier stuff mixed in.

My brother and I both have an 1850... we both ? whether to go with the 18 or 23.. We ended up with the 18 and love them. We both have 54 in. decks, we mow about 1 acre each, we have cut our mow time in half... we both have moved 50 yds of loam, 100 yds of mulch, and countless piles of debris.. it is amazing who much power these machines have. Our backs are no longer sore and we love to go out and play in the yard.... I think you will like both machines, but if $ is an issue , go with the 18...

It is safe to say either will do the job. I have about an acre and opted for the BX24. It is way overkill but I wanted it so I bought it. I a BX2350 0r 1850 or even a 1500. Point it these machines are beasts! Don't be afraid of buying the smaller unit. The 1850 is a 3cylinder rather than a twin in the 1500. FYI

is there enough of a difference in the pto hp on each to effect and implement performance?

Just my 2 cents.

I may cause some grief here in the forum because many people get upset if you say anything bad about Kubota. Too bad.

My gripe is not about Kubota in general-I have owned other Kubota tractors-it is specifically with the BX-1850.

I bought a BX1850 with MMM and FEL and at 35 hours I am selling it for $9500 to $10000.

It is junk. Kubota rushed into production and missed every single detail on this tractor.

I will replace the BX-1850 with either a B7800 or John Deere 2520.

Perform your due diligence. Compare and look very hard before you buy this turkey!

Your 2 cents are not worth a penny if you don't explain. Saying something is junk simply will not cut it. Your opinion is valued only when you state the facts, And the B7800 and Deere 2520 are both designed for a different task all together so maybe you did not buy enough tractor for your needs.

The question was which one and for his needs all will do the job.

PS: Got the BX24 for 14,500, the BX2350 was 12K and the BX1850 was 10K new! So if it is such a piece then drop the price.

i agree, can you go into some detail as to why you think it is junk.

grated not every tractor appeals to everyone, so i am wondering what it is that you expected and the tractor did not deliver.

did you have any issuses with reilablity, or doing what it was designed to do, or was it simply to small for your needs

Cracked deck-10", 3 electrical problems that required recall, poor body fit.
Numerous complaints.
Check out the TBN comments on the BX-1850. Do your homework or get the results you ask for.
