Oil & Fuel 1815 front axle fluid?

Changed my front diff oil past weekend.. Fluid did not smell like gear oil whatsover. Manual calls for 85/140 gear oil. I now smell the gear oil while working machine, I did vent as i refilled diff. Did Mahindra put in gear oil for first fill or something else?

That is correct. Gear oil won't hurt anything, but they spec out hy-trans now.

I thought that the fluid smelled like hydraulic oil, fairly inert..I'll leave the gear oil in for now as I filled it with expensive Lucas climbing style long chain molecule type..Thanks for inputs from members, Dave
