I have a 1812 that is on the 2nd starter and it will soon be the 3rd if I can't figure out why it is chewing up the bendix gear .
I brought the mower out last week to get her ready for spring and when I cranked it over I heard a horrible grinding noise , the starter was engaged on the flywheel but the teeth on the gear were too worn down to spin the fly wheel .
So I ordered a rebuilt one from Amazon , installed it , mower started up fine the first time but the second time the starter stayed engaged and I heard the same grinding noise . I was able to get the bendix gear to retract , but it has hung up since then and is starting to wear down the gear on the new starter .
Any ideas why the gear is hanging up ? the battery and starter solenoid are both newer ( within the past year )
thanks
