I have a Ford 1710 2wd (1984) and I unscrewed the oil pressure sending unit from the side of the engine. No oil ran out.
Is there supposed to be oil making contact there or what.

When I drained the oil from the injector pump (before removing the sending unit) did that have anything to do with this?
I have since replaced the oil in the pump and the crank case.

Maybe I removed the sending unit before I refilled with oil. I don't remember now.
I guess I can take it out again to see if there is oil behind it now.

Thanks.

I think it is above the oil level in the crankcase. It gets pressure when the engine is running. Put it in, hook up the wire and start the tractor. If red light goes out, all is well. Why did you take it out? Is it a new replacement?

Kent,

With the engine off when you take out the sending unit no oil will run out. The sender location is above crankcase oil level. Now if you turn the engine on the story is different with a steady stream of oil shooting out of the sender threaded connection. (don't recommend testing it)

Injector oil pump and the crankcase is not shared on your tractor, so the answer is negatory.

You will have oil coming out only when engine is on.

I took it out thinking that it was the coolant temp sending unit. Once it was out I realized my error.
