Not all fuel shops are equal..
There ARE some injectors that are "throw-aways".
but not a Yanmar injector.
THEY told you it had to be "replaced" sight unseen?? wow.. didn't even test it??
HOW can you condem something without testing it??
THATS FAR FROM "thoroughly professional"!!!
Its not all a lose, if it fixed your problem..??

Yes, replacing the injectors that had obviously never been removed in 30 years restored easy starting.

I read the 1st page.. seems like you did the right thing..
I've gotten them in, IN THE HEAD.. the guy could get'm out.. and.. I'v gotten them in "in pieces".. where the customer had ripped them apart trying to get them out.. SO all in all, you did GOOD.
I see in your post, you had the breakdown.. where it shows the tip.. {Oh well, live n learn}

Yes.. only the tip.. That's all a rebuilt inj. is.. a new tip & reset the opening pressure to spec.. with a POP TESTER.

I have a pop tester that I use. More or less wondering what seals and such I'll need. Other than the combustion seal

Why are you doing this?

Harder starting than I feel I correct and it smokes black ALOT.

If the pressure is "slightly" low..50-75psi.. go ahead & adjust it.. thats "IF" the spray pattern, leak down & chatter is good..
but if the pressure is 100-200 psi low, replace the nozzle.. the valve lift has worn out of spec..
I had a set the other day{Kubota} that by changing the tip, raised the opening pressure 400psi.. {to spec}
While testing 1st, they ALL opened at the exact same pressure{low} but 2 of the 3 had REAL BAD spray patterns & wouldn't chatter..
I replaced ALL 3 nozzles & they worked flawlessly..
