My 1528 is only a year old, but it has always blown ALOT of black smoke on start up even in the summer months. I called my dealer and he said that it was normal and to try starting with the throttle about a 1/4 open, this did not work. I exspect a little smoke, but when I start it in the garrage(a large 2 car with 14'ceilings it instanly fills it with black smoke. If this is normal than I can live with this, but if not I would definetly like to find the problem. Any ideals would be greatly appriciated.

The smoke is due to incomplete combustion until the glow plugs heat if so equipped.

Do u give the glow plugs time to heat before u try starting it. I've noticed they all smoke some on start up but not that bad.

Yes, usally hold the key for 7-14 sec depending on how cold it is, but in the garage it never gets below 40.

What are you using for fuel? Do you have a block heater? I would probably recommend heating the plugs a little longer. I know that my 1528 needs longer to warm up than some of my other tractors.

My 1532 is garage kept too, smokes bad on start-up like the rest of yours.
Using the block heater for 2 hrs will helps. You have to get ready to move it outside the garage and leave the doors open for a while.

My old BX 25 only puffs a little white smoke when cold starting in the winter.

Takes a while to get used to all of that black smoke, my dealer claims it is normal too? ( 55 hrs only on it)

I have a 1532 that I bought new a couple of months ago , and it does the same thing . I keep mine inside too . I usually hold glow plugs on a few seconds release and repeat a couple of times , my salesman said that is how he does his personal one . This is really the only concern of the tractor I have had . Not wishing you bad luck , but am glad to know someone else is experiencing this . I may contact MF hotline tommorrow , maybe if we all do this issue , might become important to them .

While, I don't like all the black smoke, it is a relief that it just may be normal for them and not actually something wrong. The smoke is not a big deal in the warmer seasons for I just leave the garage doors open for a while, but when it is 20* and the garage is heated and I have to open the doors . I guess I will have to put it in the lean to next winter when I am done building it :(
